John Sanchez inserted 'jab' into his article title but he included Jon Machota's tweet of Tom Brady delivering the line in the same article:

The audience was the best judge. People 'ooh' at a jab and chuckle at jokes. They reacted like it was the latter. Brady said it as a joke.

John Sanchez isn't the only article not using "joke".

I've seen headlines using "shot", "cheap shot", and "jibe".

I guess they don't know how to judge those crowd reactions.

It’s definitely a jab. TV personalities rarely go really hard on any of the players other than to point out that they maybe made the same mistake as before. Especially former QB’s talking about other QB’s. They use baby gloves typically. I doubt it gets any worse than this-it’s not good business unless you’re SAS or his ilk.
"Rarely go hard on the players" is saying "let's see if he can pull through?" LOL

What's the joke though? Why would people find that funny if not in a "damn, that was harsh" kind of way?

The "did that just slip out" right after kinda makes it seem like a shot at Dak being a loser that can't get it done, no?
That's a big assertion with Brady insinuating that Dak's a loser. Is this not a big year for Dak? Is he not always in the media spotlight as the QB of the Cowboys? Does he not have to pull through in the playoffs? It's one of the biggest offseason storylines in the NFL and a question that's warranted.

" But in this new role, I know how important the Cowboys are to this network," Brady said.

"They got great storylines. Dak Prescott, let’s see if he can finally come through. Did that just slip out?”
This is what scares me.
The NFL loves storylines, and I don't put it past them to put the Cowboys in the Super Bowl and let them win it just for that reason.

Not to get more technical but can you post another article? Most printed news stories are copies of the original story, along with the accompanying headline.

Peoples, just say I am wrong. Jab. Joke. It is not anything new in the world of sports or individuals singling out the Dallas Cowboys. It is not a big deal.

It is a harsh joke.
I don't think it was a mean-spirited joke but it does mirror the perception that Dak didn't get a contract extension because the team doesn't totally believe in him. More funny in that it's not a thing a broadcaster would bring up in promoting a game or something like that. So, for the record, I think it could be both, intentional or not by Brady. His reaction seemed to skew towards unintentional and he would have probably chosen different words.

I'm a bonafide Dak hater but even I felt a little bad when the reaction of the crowd is to burst out laughing after Brady said "Can Dak finally get it done?".

I mean, that's just cold lol
