He sucks. Riiight. That's why he's invited to the combine. That's why he's one of the top rated Safeties in the draft. That's why he was one of ND's biggest playmakers the last two years. You really nailed that one.

Oh thats right I forgot that everyone that got an invite to the combine is a future hall of famer.

Well that is true...I stand corrected. He would be cheaper to have in the backfield missing plays.

And a special teams ace ! It's like killing two birds with one stone.......only one was just rendered unconscious , woke up and pooped in your post toasties.
But since I don't like post toasties I don't really care.
The way I see it at worst he would be like the Roy we had in the beginning.Let's face it everybody always new he could not cover. It only started to matter to people when we started being relevant. At that point he was just too expensive for just the big hits. Take away the expense and it's not such a big deal. Roy is not the reason for any of the playoff losses and anybody that thinks that is just wrong.

Apparently you lack the inability to read, because if you had, you would have noticed that I never said anything of the sort.

...but please, continue to enlighten us with your superior couch scouting prowess with such comments as "he sucks".

No you just stated he had to be good because he was invited to the combine. Most likely 35% of the players there this year will be out of the NFL in less than 3 years. No point arguing with the ND and Zbikowski lovers. I have watched him play every televised ND game for 4 years and I am not impressed. Watch his pro career for 3 years and get back to me. He will not start as a safety in the NFL. Simply my opinion.

I am not an ND hater I just don't think highly of Zbikowski. It is difficult to be a born and raised Indiana Catholic and not be an ND fan. I think that a lot of their players are overrated and I say so. Why does my not thinking he is great make me an ND hater. I would have loved to have the Cowboys been able to pick up Jeff Samardzija but he went the baseball route.

And its difficult to be a Class of 02' Grad from Purdue and be a bandwagon Domer since 11. I think my Avatar will stay

I never said he was ready to start. I said he was ready to be an immediate contributor. He would be an excellent guy to groom to eventually take everyone's favorite whipping boy's spot. On top of that he'd be a bigger special teams contributor.

Those same analysts were damn near chanting "someone draft this guy right now!"

He does have similar issues in coverage, takes poor angles, etc. However, he does something Roy hasn't been doing too much as of late...make plays. He's always around the ball.

He's got more heart, and a mean streak to boot.

I never said you said he was ready to start, I SAID, I don't think he's ready to start. I just quoted you because I was continuing along your train of thought.

You also don't have to remind me to take anything analysts say with a grain of salt, but I was interested in what Deion had to say about any of the DB's. They also didn't diss Tom at all, they talked about his toughness and if you didn't know any better, you'd think this guy was 1st day material from all the good things they said about him. In general, they had a lot of good things to say about every kid there.

I don't see how he's doing anything Roy hasn't been able to do though, seeing as how Roy is in the NFL and this kid is just coming out of college. Roy was far more dominant in college than Tom ever was.

In no way, in my opinion, would this kid be an upgrade over Roy except that he plays special teams.

Roy's got a mean streak as well, but NFL coaches and players have a way of exploiting your weaknesses. If Tom takes bad angles now and covers other college players only "a little better than Roy", it'll only get worse in the NFL if he doesn't improve on them.

No. Again, your reading comprehension skills have failed you. I mentioned the above reasons as a counter to your in-depth "he sucks" comment. I never said he "has to be good". It just seems to me that there's SLIGHTLY more evidence that he doesn't "suck" when he has earned an invite to the combine, and then tops it off with a very good workout...all of this after a successful college career at a competitive D1 school.

Many people, including me, disagree with your oh so well thought out assessment, so I'll pass on looking you up in 3 years. Regardless of Zbikowski's status, because it's equally useless arguing with people whom clearly find more importance in their dislike of a player than whether or not he can actually play.

That's just my opinion.

guess his return for a td against Tennessee and UNC must not account for anything.

First, I wasn't attempting to lecture you.

Second, I understand this rationale, and its very hard to argue with. I'm a RW supporter, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to ignore his drop off in play. If Williams was still playing to HIS potential, then this conversation wouldn't even occur, but he's not. I don't think its impossible to find an improvement over our guy at SS right now...it just seems like he's lost his way. He needs to start making plays again, but until he does, we have to look for more talent. We're too close to wait around on this.

Having said that, I'm hoping he turns it around, I miss the old Roy, and dread every secondary, safety, cap space thread started on this board.

5th round, maybe. I have watched him for 4 years and as I posted before he is almost always late to the pile and he specializes in cheap shots. I am not impressed with his "speed" or his coverage skills. He is not that great of a punt returner, you have to look at the quality of teams that ND played and who he had long returns against.

LONG-time ND fan here. You sure you watched Zbikowski for 4 years? I ask because first of all ... he didn't play as a Freshman, leaving only 3 years. Secondly ... he returned 3 punts for TD's in his career, two of which came against USC (60 yards) and Tennessee (78 yards) in 2005. He returned one vs. UNC this past year.

He's an overachiever who is as no nonsense and intense as they come. Kinda reminds me of Bill Bates ... and he could be that kinda guy for us on special teams. Do I think he's a ballhawk or some kind of superb athlete as a safety? Hell no. But he also isn't the guy you portray.

Personally though, if we were to take a ND player ... I really like Trevor Laws.

Agree with this 100 percent. Talented and really an overachiever at the same time. I like this guy. Are you sure he didn't play as a freshman, I thought he was one of the few that did.

No, he didn't play as a Freshman.

2003 (FRESHMAN): Did not see playing time as a rookie reserve safety.

Also in 2005 ... he had 2 punt returns for 42 yards at Michigan.

I really like Laws. ND transitioned to a 3-4 D this past year with Laws moving out to DE. He responded with an incredible 112 tackles ... and added 8 tackles for loss and 4 sacks.

The Senior bowl showed what he's capable of at DT ... though I don't know if he could play the nose.

I would be surprised if he couldn't, he seems to be a mind over matter player. What are the chances he could block 6 field goal/extra point attempts? He is a beast and I think he will get even better. He also played well against top competition.

True about the blocked kicks ... particularly with him being kinda stubby, lol.

Prehaps he could play the nose a bit in Wade's scheme (his value could be ala Ratliff; NT and DE). He knows how to use his hands well, which has something to do with him being 49-0 as a heavyweight wrestler; ranked #1 in the nation. He has a squatty build with a low center of gravity to go along with a high motor. And he is strong (35 reps @ 225).

This guy sucks as a safety, always late to the pile and a cheap shot type of player.

He will be picked #7 by new England...........
