Top 10 Rock songs of all-time

HH, if you have a music download service download those Sabbath songs I mentioned and give them a listen. They are a bit dark, but remember Rock, and Heavy Metal in particular were about protest and non conforming.

Floyd and Zeppelin are far and away my favorite bands. I love Dazed and Confused and Kashmir by Zeppelin.

Here's rock trivia for you, where did they (Zep) get the name for their song "Black Dog?"

A high school teacher of mine who was also a fan of Zeppelin actually brought this up once. The name came from a black dog that was lost or wandering about the place or something like that where they recorded the song. The song itself doesnt has nothing to do with a black dog though.

Bingo. After recording the song, the Mixer asked what it was called. There was a black dog walking past the studio so they called it black dog.

Here is another trivia one.

The song Badge by Cream (the best that clapton was when he was in creamIMO) George Harrison actually co-wrote the song but the credit was given to another name as George was not susposed to work because he was under contract to another company....But he did Co-Write that song (lyrics and a riff).

The part that George played on the song was the bridge part, now for those that don't know a bridge part can be a part the is inbetween a rhythm section and a chorus or vice versa....it is there to transistion between the two so it is referred to as a bridge, to bridge the two pieces together.

Well original the song had no title so someone said since george played the bridge part they called it bridge.

Legend goes that they wrote the song title down and when it came time to make the record, the printing and such that someone could not read the title correctly and thought the word was Badge instead of Bridge so that is how it went to become Badge on the record.

Sticking with some Rock trivia, in the song Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd there's a line...

...well Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers...

Ever wondered what that was about? They recorded the song in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and Van Zandt had taken to calling the guys at the recording study the Swampers. So that line in the song is a tribute to them.

Here is a few revolving around one band...or two.

Quiet Riot was originally started by the Famous Ozzy guitarist Randy Rhoades.

Quiet Riot was the first metal band to be Number 1 on the charts.

Two of Quiet Riots 3 biggest songs were actually cover songs from the band Slade....Mamma were all Crazy now and Cum on Feel the noize.

I figure that if 20 people posted their "Top Tens", we would have 20 different lists.

Aren't ya glad we don't have to stop picking at 10.

My brother was putting together a CD for me of my favorite rock songs that I had given him, ... before it was done I had another CD full that I wanted him to cut for me.

Ooh, I dunno...Stairway to Heaven is about as cliche as ya can get.

If were talking Rock n Roll...

Free- "All Right Now"
Stones- "Satisfaction" "Brown Sugar" "Honky Tonk Woman" "Sympathy for the Devil" "Jumpin Jack Flash"
Chuck Berry- "Johnny B Goode"
Steppenwolf- "Born To Be Wild"
Beatles- "Come Together" "Twist and Shout"
Bruce- "Born To Run"
Cream- "Sunshine of Your Love"
Clapton- "Layla"
Elvis- "Jailhouse Rock"
Roy Orbison- Oh, Pretty Woman
Creedence- "Born on a Bayou"
Little Richard- "Long Tall Sally" "Good Golly Miss Molly"
Jerry Lee Lewis- "Great Balls of Fire" "Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On"
Jimi- "Purple Haze"

And for me, Led Z's "Whole Lotta Love" had a much greater impact on rock music than the aforementioned "Stairway to Heaven" It came out earlier...it was one of the first HEAVY acid rock songs.

Now, I realize these are all rather old...but I think they are songs that were quite influential...or just damn good.

I love the Eagles and some of the other songs mentioned here...but they just don't fit into "rock"...well, maybe Life in the Fast Lane...and Hotel California...two GREAT songs...do.

I'm sure I missed a bunch.

"Layla" is one of the greatest songs ever, and that's saying something for a song that only has singing for about the first 2 minutes of a 7 minute song. The piano and guitar solos at the end are amazing.
