Trade Dez?

Since everyone else has blasted the OP, I will just say that getting rid of arguably the best receiver in football who is entering the prime of his career seems like a poor decision. I have faith that the Joneses will get a contract hammered out with Dez.

If we traded him for a 1st, we'd have to use that 1st to replace him. What would be the point? The extra 2nd wouldn't be be enough to be worth the risk.

I can see this getting more and more ugly as time goes on. Unhappy Dez and perhaps an uphappy Dez where it affects his play on the field and also the locker room environment. If any of the top tier teams in say the first 5 picks were willing to trade their number 1 and say number 2 for Dez, would you take it? Take one of the top two receivers (WV or Alabama kid) and then use the number 2 pick as needed for other needs. Anyone in??

Chip? Is that you Chip?

Or you could just sign him to a new contract before the season starts which happens all of the time to players that get the franchise tag.

and quite honestly, likely to happen. it really does seem that people have a "freak out" button that any tidbit of information will set off. so they slapped the franchise tag on dez. it's in neither best interest to keep it there so the odds of something being worked out before the season starts, quite high. but yet people see the tag and go "instant extreme". it certainly isn't all or even most of the people.

but it sure it the whiniest.

Why is everyone assuming Dez is going to go ballistic or get mad and do something stupid or sulk or whatever?

Dez isn't unlike any other player who has gone through this. No, many don't like being tagged. But those who get tagged get through this process, and I suspect Dez will too.

People are presuming upon Dez based on his past. But I don't see where people need to assume he's going to be detrimental to the team and himself because we tagged him.

Is this supposed to be funny? Somebody having an early Friday happy hour?
Must be......the point is not only is Dez a great WR.....Hold your hat here. The time has be put in place with him and Tony and they are 100% on the same page.

That is a game changer there.....better than a 1st round pick. You don't trade that way unless you are completely insane and have had atleast 2 5ths of Johnny Walker.

Dez will focus on football once the season starts. I have no worries about his contract status affecting his on-field performance.

The fact that he hasn't signed yet tells me he's being unreasonable in negotiations. Which really doesn't surprise me.

The OP brings up a good question for discussion. Yeah, we all like Dez and hope he stays a Cowboy for life under a fair contract and stays out of trouble. Well, life don't always work that way and you need to have backup plans. I am sure the Cowboys and the Broncos have contingency plans for Dez and Demaryius in scenario a) player demands get insanely ridiculous or b) a team offers a ridiculous contract and is willing to give up 2 #1s undr the franchise rules. Scenario A would necessitate a trade and try to make the best of the situation. Scenario B would be the same as trading Dez for two #1s.

I am still a little worried a team like Oakland, Jax, or Clev with a lot of cap money needing to be spent will offer Dez or Demaryius a $16-18M/yr contract and be willing to give up two #1s. Some later drafting team would also be a concern if they had a lot of free cap space.

Like Bellicek said, everyone, including myself and Brady, are available for a trade. Depends on what you are offering. Seattle won the SB without a star WR. NE won the SB without a star WR. Face it, we all have a little concern (rightly or wrongly) that Dez will do something crazy. If you heard on the news that a Cowboy was arrested, you come right here and hope it wasn't Dez (or Hardy too now).

You are talking about a huge contract with a lot of guaranteed money. That is a lot of eggs in one position. An injury or something else with that player would have major ramifications for several years just like Romo. How many of us ran right to overthecap after Romo got hurt in the Washington game? So, you have to weigh the players potential risk and reward.

If Dez wants Suh-like money (if I were his agent, I'd say Dez is worth more than Suh). Jerry, would you trade Dez for Suh straight up? I wouldn't. So, Jerry...pay him accordingly? If I'm Jerry, I ain't paying that if that is what he is demanding or some other team is willing to pay. And you move on.

I have no idea how much Dez is asking for? I have no idea what other teams are willing to pay him. Jerry does, though. You compare what he is asking, what can he get realistically on the market, and what is available in his place. Weigh your options.

If some team before this year's draft is offering Dez $16-18M/yr with $50M guaranteed, I am not matching. Give me the 2 #1s. Too much risk for me. I like him as a player but I just can't feel confident doing that type of contract.

The only reason is money. Same reason they let DM go. If there wasn't a cap DM would still be here. The question is will Dez's contract destroy the cap. If Jerry trades Dez its totally a business decision. I don't think he would, but its a different world out there. It would be interesting to know if there have been any discussions about it at Valley Ranch over a bottle of Tequila.
