A top 5 pick in the draft is solid gold. Trust me the Cowboys phone is not ringing for this type of deal.

Let's trade arguably our best player and arguably the best receiver in the game. Perfect.

PS. I'm just not sure Jerry and company are all in with giving Dez Calvin Johnson type money and therefore looking for a plan B.
I think NFL teams, in general, are rethinking what a top receiver is worth, much like what occurred with the RB's. CJ is not worth CJ money right now, IMO. Nobody knows what JJ is offering vs what Dez's agent is demanding...that's your sticking point. They will eventually meet in the middle somewhere and it won't be for CJ $$. JMO.

and quite honestly, likely to happen. it really does seem that people have a "freak out" button that any tidbit of information will set off. so they slapped the franchise tag on dez. it's in neither best interest to keep it there so the odds of something being worked out before the season starts, quite high. but yet people see the tag and go "instant extreme". it certainly isn't all or even most of the people.

but it sure it the whiniest.

The Cowboys needed to clear cap room and get their ducks in a row as far as who they are going to keep and who they are going to let go. I think they did make an honest effort to re-sign Murray and if the Eagles had not offered Murray that money, the Cowboys may have been able to re-sign him.

These deals are usually done after a player is franchised because of the timing of FA hitting, having to get the cap sorted out, etc.

I will say that it is obvious that Jerry and Co. are taking hard stances on contracts they are giving out. Easily the hardest stance Jerry has ever taken, so I can understand some people thinking that the same will apply to Dez. But, the hard stance they have taken has really applied to players with injury issues, age issues and in Hardy's case...off the field issues. And I'm all for it.

I can see this getting more and more ugly as time goes on. Unhappy Dez and perhaps an uphappy Dez where it affects his play on the field and also the locker room environment. If any of the top tier teams in say the first 5 picks were willing to trade their number 1 and say number 2 for Dez, would you take it? Take one of the top two receivers (WV or Alabama kid) and then use the number 2 pick as needed for other needs. Anyone in??

Trading Dez Bryant would automatically qualify the Dallas Cowboys ownership as one of the dumbest in NFL history.

Not me. A proven 26 year old Top 3 WR in his prime is worth far more than a gamble on a 1 and 2. They would have to up the ante quite a bit. You have to consider we lost a pick when we drafted Dez as well. Ironically, we were sitting at 27 the year when we traded up to 24 with New England. As a result we swapped 1st rounders and gave them our 3rd for their 4th. So moving up 3 spots cost us dropping 29 spots between the 3rd & 4th rounds. In that scenerio, and what we know today, it was a great deal for us. I wouldn't want to gamble on making that great move.

Having a premier WR is much like having a premier DE because of what it forces the opposing team to do in their scheme. It would also depend on the team your trading with and analyzing who you predict will be there when it's time for you to use those picks.

I like your thinking outside the box approach, but now that we've lost our premier rusher, we need Dez to stretch the field or our run game will get clobbered. Now if you told me 2 first rounders, that would be a completely different ballgame.

Hey this is a wonderful idea.

While we're at it let's just go ahead and trade Romo, Witten, and at least 2 of those O-Linemen we just drafted and just start completely over with this team.

I'd be worried about some team signing Dez w/franchise tag as it stands.

So, if he is "arguably our best player and the best receiver in the game" ... he should be paid accordingly? Correct? So, if Dez arguably demands to be the highest paid player on the team, the team just gives in and pays him? If Dez demands nothing less than Calvin Johnson money, the team just gives in? Perfect:)

It all depends on how much money Dez wants. If it is too much, then start shopping him. Just the way it is. The Cowboys have the franchise tag available this year. I doubt the Cowboys would franchise Dez next year.

It's really not much different than the car buying process we all go through. What car can get the job done? What can my money buy? What cars have high insurance, high maintenance, low gas mileage, high speed, etc. In football, we have 53 cars travelling in unison in a 21 week marathon race with a lot of smash-up derby going on. This isn't a one-car race. First to get 53 across and all teams have the same budget to work with.

Let me add to this. What if the relationship between Valley Ranch and Dez is poison? Think about it folks. For those that say this is funny lets hear your solution to this problem. Remember, if Dez has been signed earlier then we could have used the franchise tag on Murray. Also, you folks are forgetting that some of these young wide receivers tore up the league last year. You telling me you wouldn't take the kid in New York and a number 2 (high round pick) for Dez right now?

No I wouldn't want ODB and a 2nd for Dez, better throw in another 1st round

That's crazy. OBJ is making 2.6 mill a year. He is already a star after his first year. You'd free up 10mill dollars this year and be set for the next 3 years. Use our first this year on a guy like Strong. Plus an additional second.

Give me that trade any day of the week.

Most receivers take 3 years to really start hitting their stride in the NFL. OBJ is an exception to that. Dez took about that long to really break loose. Do you feel like starting over?

OBJ has a bright future, but I think he caught the league more off guard than anything. It will be interesting to see to what happens when team start to really gameplan for him.

sure. so i'll give you 53 yugos and allow one to be turbo.

i'll take a hellcat charger, 2 mustang GTs, a dodge 4x4 and a ford raptor then just give me 48 standard challenger hemis.

there' we each have 53 cars. still think it's fair?

hell, if you just want smash up derbies, i'll take 10 ford and 10 dodge 4x4s and give you a 33 car advantage.

there. that should be even.

The fact that he hasn't signed yet tells me he's being unreasonable in negotiations. Which really doesn't surprise me.

Wanting more than $20M guaranteed and more than a $5M signing bonus isn't being unreasonable. That was the latest offer that's been reported. For an elite WR that's a low offer and shows the team doesn't trust him.

I don't believe that's been the best offer and I certainly have more trust in the Cowboys being fair than I do a mental midget like Dez.
