From what I have read he just signed a 5 year extension that pays him 32 million for 2021, 37 for 2022, 42 or 44 for 2023, and 39 for 2024. The cap should go after this year. I am not sure exactly if it was these numbers but it was a very friendly contract for the Cowboys the first two years.
watson signed a 4 year extension for 156M. that's about 39M per year..... now you point out something interesting which most Dak detractors never discuss. the actual cap hit is different than the total number.....so I used averages (almost 40M) to compare.......reality says Dak's cap hits won't be 40M per year.....

and why give up picks to get the same QB (or less) and pay the same money....makes no sense.

I would consider talking to Houston to see if they might be interested in a trade. I would not be opposed to trading for Watson. He has 5 years left his deal, the deal looks like this over the next 5 years.

2021 10.54 Mil
2022 35 Mil
2023 20 Mil
2024 32 Mil
2025 32 Mil

The Texans would be on the hook for Signing Bonus money, which makes the rest of the contract very manageable and would help us tremendously in the current cap year. Would allow us to go out and pick up a few much needed FAs on the Defensive side of the ball and gives Houston a starting QB in Dak that is a plus in terms of fan base and can win games for them.

There would be a lot to like in that deal if we could make it happen IMO but Houston would have to be willing to make that deal, we would likely have to throw in a little bit IMO. Might need a draft pick in return.

why trade for watson for the same money and a QB that has had two 4 win seasons. Quincy Carter and campo never had a 4 win season. you have to be really bad to only get 4 wins and deshan is part of that problem.....not sure what he brings to the table.....

I wasn't going to suggest giving up picks but straight up trade Dak for Watson. I have seen this discussed and heard on sports talk radio. It is all scenarios that will neve happen. I understand what you did but I was just looking at from Watson break down in the cap hit from what I have read. Could be wrong. I am getting old so my memory is not like it use d to be, lol.

wilson is slated to make 32, 37, 39 over the next three years.....so you are saying that with $8M, $3M, $1M extra and not having 2 first round picks. somehow that's better for the team and you are going to sign a couple of really dominant defensive players in FA...and get a 31 year old QB.....

$36 million average for the quarterback. Cheaper than the reported $40 million for Dak. And Wilson is clearly the more accomplished player.

And did I ever say two 1st round picks? No. I did not.

A less than zero percent chance its Dak for Deshaun straight up. That’s ridiculous.

I know it was but that which some of the sports show talking heads and media were proposing. I think there is an article on Landry Hat or Steve A suggested it so consider the source.

I am not a big fan of watson. comparing the two, both 1-2 in the playoffs. watson has had two seasons with 4 wins only. that's horrible. not same or similar cap hit to Dak. makes no sense to make the trade. like you said, it won't happen.

don't forget he was part of the 24-0 playoff loss. not sure why the media is so obsessed with him

Russell and a 1st is reasonable. Russell and two firsts is insanity. Realistically though, how much better will Russ make this team? Will he score 50 points a game?

For all the Dak haters out there, there are very, very few ways in which this organization can get rid of Dak and still get better. Everybody wants to get rid of Dak, but nobody has a clue on what to do after getting rid of him. Getting Wilson is one of those very few ways to improve this team. It's a pipe dream, but just about every way to get better without Dak is a pipe dream.
Brady last year would have definitely been much better results wise and cost wise than Dak . But no one wanted to listen , until Brady lifted the trophy while Dak too, 31.4 mil then started 1-4 . What a joke.

Watson or stafford or Watson would be opportunities this year . Or Trevor Lawrence etc .
So am not sure how slim the opportunities are without Dak . Actually Dak is a heavy cost that hinders this team’s chances . But don’t worry if you are a Dak lover . He will get paid crazy money and won’t do anything for this team . We have seen this before .

agree but dak for wilson and our 10th id do that maybe they both are happier making the move, at least Wilson a warrior never missed start has he?and dak just had major injury, and which has been to two sbs and has ring?

i think that worth our 10th pick and dak..its tough decision but sometimes those are necessary..

Your options are absolutely horrendous. You throw junk out there and you will get called out for it. Let's go 1 by 1 and show you how ridiculous you are.

Watson? The asking price is 3 firsts, 2 seconds, and 2 defensive players..yeah, very realistic..Great job finding that one..

Lawrence..hahahah, you can't even come up with a trade offer that the jags would accept..This is just stupid..Great job, really smart idea here..

Yeah, let's go get stafford..brilliant idea

Throw in Dak and a couple of 1sts, so that our division leaders WFT dont get him. Something like the Rams did for Stafford so that 49ers dont get him.

Other option is get Brady on our team so that he doesnt distance himself from other teams in super bowl count. Since our ceiling would be NFC CG.
There is zero chance the Seahawks are dealing him as he carries a 39 million cap hit if dealt, that's not even including getting his replacement. Not happening!!

Do you even understand the concept of talent acquisition and trades or are you just a Dak slobberer . Other teams make deals and get them selves better , but seems you like mediocrity and losses .
the only reason we are not getting offers because no one is crazy enough to pay Dak 40 . But seems you are not smart to see it . Enjoy .

You talked about getting a guy who would never want to be here.
Do you understand the concept of talent acquisition?
