I think I misunderstood the post..
What would be expensive?
I may be comprehending it wrong but does he mean trade Dak for 2 1sts and move up for Burrow?
I don't think any of that is possible anyways.
I think the OP was suggesting that yes. I think he was saying trade Dak for two 1st and sign a Vet option like Rivers. Now, I am not a fan of that idea, only because I don't believe Phillips fits the WCO. He's a vertical guy IMO but the idea of signing a Vet is, IMO, a must. I'd bring in somebody who could actually start for us because I am not convinced that Dak will be here for Camp or Pre-Season or maybe even the first few games of the season. I think that there is every reason to plan for Dak missing a few games and lets be honest, if he misses time like that, he's not coming in and lighting the world on fire. He's probably going to end up getting injured if he does that because that's what happens when you miss camp. We've seen it a lot in the past. I'd plan for the long game on this one because I I don't trust France to work with Jerry. I think this could become a long, drawn out negotiation and we may need to have a guy who can actually give you a chance to win games. To me, it's just good preparation but that's just my opinion.
The problem is, the Bengals love Burrows and I don't think 2, maybe even 3 first round picks will get them to give up Burrows and I would rather use those picks to obtain talent. I think you could move up into the later first or very early 2nd and get a good QB prospect that could be developed, while still acquiring talent in other areas. We need some guys. We need to bring in a TE, we need a WR, we need a CB if we don't sign Jones, we need a Safety, we need to upgrade our interior DL and we need to add LBs. I'm not for trading Dak and then spending all our assets on Burrows.
Ideally, I'd rather play hardball with Dak, sign him to a reasonable contract, sign a short term Vet QB who is capable of giving us a chance to win some games until we get the Dak situation settled and draft a young QB who we can develop. That, to me, is the ideal scenario, assuming we can't get Dak signed in the near term for a reasonable deal. I'm not for paying Dak 35 or more on a short term deal and being back at the table in a few years so that we can take it in the shorts again. That, to me, is a recipe for disaster. If we find a team who is willing to give up two firsts, then I probably do that if I'm sure we can sign a decent Vet option and we have a QB we like.
Again, that's just my opinion though.
