Trey Lance was traded for a 4th, Dak was drafted in the 4th

I needed a good laugh. The team that drafted Lance admitted it was a mistake. Most teams had a grade on Dak around where he was picked. One team was right about there choice and he has exceeded expectations and one hasn’t came clise
Or maybe the niners simply thought they saw more in Purdy and Lance became expendable. Yet another sad attempt at Dak propping.

It makes perfect sense. The FO doesn’t use the top 3 rounds for selecting quarterbacks since the position is a relatively minor one.

4th round or higher or UDFAs are the breeding areas for Qb here in the last quarter century with the exception of 2nd rounder Quincy Carter who should have been drafted way way later
And it's not like the 49ers have drafted great QBs lately. Just average like Dak.

This post summarizes the last couple decades of mediocrity and post season failure for the Cowboys.

And it won’t change until their philosophy changes.

Which has always bothered me. Dak and Romo before him never won anything of significance to get untouchable status. Both have never made a championship game, yet neither one was challenged. When Romo was named starter they never drafted a QB high, even when he started to break down on a regular basis. When Dak became the full time starter (which again wasn’t the plan if you know the history) he was never challenged with a high (2nd round or early 3rd QB). Why?

What makes me upset is the Patriots drafted Jimmy G in the second with Brady having been to four super bowls and having won three of them. He was unfazed and continued to produce at a high level. That’s a winning franchise along with a winning player. But somehow, drafting a QB will upset the current QB. Daks is a solid above average player. But I could care less if he gets upset. Drafting a QB means that we are looking to get better and if he doesn’t perform up to a certain standard we as a franchise have a contingency plan in place.

If he is concerned about losing his job to a guy he has 7-8 year head start on, then is he really the guy to get the team to a Super Bowl ? I think he can be, but I would like some pressure put on him and not simply the Jones playing games with his contract (a battle which they lost in the end)
yes, same with Aikman, Jones allowed him to fade away to the point or retirement without getting ready to replace him. This franchise has not successfully planned for and executed a winning top qb to the next wining top qb since they drafted Danny White while Staubach was still playing great.

The sooner we're free of Dak, the better in my opinion, but It's not Dak propping to point out the obvious. The niners didn't think they saw more in Purdy, anyone watching could see the difference.

I'm struggling to understand what the 49ers saw in Lance. He's never been more than an RPO running QB that never made it past his first read. Why the 49ers tried to incorporate him into their offense is beyond me. They needed to use a more Eagles style offense from last year for him. That's what the Cowboys need to use if he ever plays. Or else we won't win any games with him. He is not a good pocket passer.

The odds of Trey Lance having the same success Dak has had is extremely slim and none. When Dak got his opportunity he made the most of it. Lance was given two opportunities in San Francisco. With his first opportunity, he didn’t look that great and ended up getting injured. With his second opportunity, he ended up the 49ers third QB, which resulted in him being traded.
By many accounts....Tony was a better QB than Dak. For the sake of discussion, let's say that is true. Jerry admitted he's staying with Dak because "you don't mess with a streak"...not because Dak was so much better.

It could be the same thing happened in San Fran?

4th try in the 4th rd is a charm?

At least we're moving up in the world, we used to try undrafted QBs.

Maybe next draft we'll get 2 QB's in the 2nd rd.

In all honesty, Lance will most likely never play a single down in a Dallas uniform. Unless Dak starts tossing 6 picks a game and totally craps the bed the rest of the season, Jerry is going to extend him. We all know this. Jerry is satisfied with staying somewhat competitive and Dak does just enough to meet those very low standards, nothing more and sometimes less. So with that said, and barring a season / career ending injury, Lance is nothing more than an extra body on the roster who will never see the field.

Trey Lance has been in the league a couple of years and shown nothing.

Dak Prescott was thrown into being qb1 8 years ago and has won a ton of games.

Your draft position means nothing.
Trey Lance hasn't been giving a real chance. He's still unknown at this point.

Why does it seem like you hope he fails?

Exceeding expectations as a 4th round pick that was supposed to be a 3rd stringer isn't hard.

What does that say about the organization that knows QBs?
It says that they tried to upgrade the most important position in sports and it didn't work out for em. Regardless of who they have at QB they are going to dog walk the Cowboys and make deep runs it seems.

Do you prefer Jerry's business as usual approach more?

Trey Lance was graded as a 1st round talent by the organization that knows QBs,

Dak would've never been drafted if he wasn't a duel threat in college.
Then that same organization thought the last pick in the draft was better and a player who has been one of the worst QBs in the league the past 5 years was better.

I like that though.

They didn't feel like they owed anything to Lance. Thought they had better. Moved on.

Here we are, 8 years on with a loser at QB we're getting ready to extend for a few more years.

The obvious reason is they don't want Dakie poo to feel threatened. He's pretty sensitive, you know. Remember a few weeks ago when he said he was angry and then crapped the bed against the Niners? Don't upset Dak, it isn't good for the rest of the team. This week he's mad at his critics and that doesn't bode well.
