Trey Lance was traded for a 4th, Dak was drafted in the 4th

The same thing didn’t happen in San Francisco, because Trey Lance was given an opportunity this past summer to beat out Brock Purdy. Romo was never given the opportunity to beat out Dak because of his injury history. The Cowboys were looking to try and replace him because his body was breaking down. The 49ers traded the farm for Trey Lance. They saw him as their future. However, he got injured when he got his big opportunity. He didn’t look very good prior to the injury and he obviously didn’t look good in training camp this past summer because he couldn’t even beat out Darnold for the backup job.
That's a lot of words to say things you have no clue about.

I do not hope Lance fails. I expect Lance to fail based on what you said plus the other thing that was unsaid. As you pointed out a great organization looked at him and said thought they were better off with the last pick in the draft and Sam Darnold. Now how good Purdy is is a debatable point but at this point we know how good Darnold is, or in this case is not. That tells the level that Lance is at now, or at least was at the start of the season. Combine that with the fact that as of next season it will have been 5 years since Lance played more than 2 full games at any level. The last time he will have played meaningful minutes is the one year of college tape on him before he sat out the last year of his college career. So he has to overcome 2 separate issues: having barely played football in half a decade and having to elevate himself from a quarterback who is not in the top 50 to being in the top 10-15. Both of those are very rare things to overcome individually but would be incredibly unlikely to see happen in tandem. Would it be fun to see happen? Sure, but it is incredibly unlikely.

Meanwhile if a top 10-15 QB appears in FA, or if they Cowboys are drafting in the top 5 and can take a shot at one, then I would not mind going for it but barring that then yes I am satisfied having someone for whom every offseason the professional GMs, Scouts, and Coaches all vote as top 10-15.

I needed a good laugh. The team that drafted Lance admitted it was a mistake. Most teams had a grade on Dak around where he was picked. One team was right about there choice and he has exceeded expectations and one hasn’t came close
Sure, but it is possible Lance ends up being good.. even if he starts his career later than Dak.

Dak lost what got him graded out as a late round pick.

Dirk, Mahomes, and Lamar didn't/never did.

Pure pocket passer Dak would be selling cars back in Mississippi right now.
You think Trey Lance was drafted because of his prowess as a pocket passer?

You've never seen him play, have you?

Quick reminder to everyone here that Trey Lance was so bad in SF that not only could he not beat out Jimmy G, Darnold, or Purdy, but also that his organization was willing to trade him for a 4th only a few years after using 3 first round picks to move up and select him.

That is absolutely insane if you get off of the bottle and think about it objectively for a few seconds.

Yep! I look at Trey Lance as someone else's trash. If he was any good Shanahan never would have let him go. I think Darnold is someone that Dallas should have brought in to compete with Dak. He showed in Carolina he had some good ability but he's always been on bad teams. Jerry got fleeced trading a 4th for Lance.
Drew Brees was pretty much run out on a rail by the Chargers and he’s a hall of fame caliber QB. Brett Farve was traded away by Atlanta as a castoff. Kurt Warner was cut and was sacking groceries when he got the call to come back and play. All three are Hall of Fame level QBs.

Sometimes a player doesn’t immediately set the world on fire. Lance may never amount to anything but prior history may not rule out the possibility that he might eventually be a Hall of Fame level QB.

Trey Lance was graded as a 1st round talent by the organization that knows QBs,

Dak would've never been drafted if he wasn't a duel threat in college.
'...an organization that knows QBs'

That's the same 'organization' that 'knew' about every other bust that's come out of the draft through the years. Lance posted up in SF and not only couldn't be the third guy deep, he was sent packing for a measly 4th round pick. I'll take Kyle Shanahan's word for it after evaluating an NFL player every day for 2 years rather than pre-draft prognosticators who don't coach football.
