This is true! The best we can hope for is a discount so we can grab pieces in FA, but I doubt that happens he says he wants to win but kills that cap space like he’s broke! How bout play for another team and see if you get all them endorsements.
If they tell him 40-45 million take it or leave it and he refuses, find a trade partner immediately. 55-60 million is not deserved and should be laughed at.

Cowboys need to spend a high draft pick on a legitimate pro-set QB who's taken a lot of snaps and shown something. They simply can't rely on Lance panning out.

He only played 19 games for North Dakota State and 8 for Frisco. If Shanahan couldn’t make him a player, I’m not sure anyone can
Shanahan never put effort into him, injuries, etc, derailed the kids progress from the get go. Not saying in the least he can be the next Jordan Love, but if Dak is the answer here I wonder what the question is? We have nothing else right now

McCarthy in the last year of his contract. Normally they would do an extension now, so he's not a lame duck. Guess what they won't and thus he will be let go. Jerry is the richest owner in the league. He can hire whomever he wants to.
The real problem is, who would work for Jerry?

In Dallas coaches get all the blade, but no real control. That's why real coaches aren't knocking down the door.

How do you know Lance couldn’t become Jordan Love with the right coaching. Early in the season Love was considered horrible.
Because they are two totally different QBs. They were totally different in college too. I'm also not sold on Jordon Love. Lance has played for how many years now? In every game he's played he's looked like trash.

Lance played in 4 games so you are judging him off of that? Talent wise there are only two quarterbacks in this class that our better and they will go 1/2. You have not seen him in the Cowboys offense to even have an opinion.

I don’t know about laughing at that. Love was an absolute bust and turned himself around.

Dak is a fourth round pick. Lance is a third overall pick. He’s going to get a long leash to see if he can figure it out.

If he even flashes a little they will take him seriously. I know it’s a long shot but what Love has done makes me think.

In college he was strictly a first read/run QB. That doesn't work in the NFL. The 49ers fell in love with his athletic ability. But he's the furthest from a pocket passer as you can get.

That doesn't mean they can't gameplan for him like they did Hurts and Jackson. But would they? He can't run our current offense. But in order to start him, we'd have to go to a heavy RPO offense. Like the Eagles did last year. Like the Ravens did in 2019.

Yes.

One of the failures of the year was not getting Lance snaps. Period.

I wonder if that was a small and subtle tiff between McCarthy and McClay. Lance was a front office decision. They basically told McCarthy about it at the last second to make sure he was "OK with it." And McCarthy decided he wasn't going to play McClay's guy. Wouldn't be the first time.

But that aside, you had to get Lance snaps. Because what happened to Dak in the playoff game was very foreseeable.

Lance might not be all that good. It wouldn't that surprising if he's not that good. But we needed an option yesterday.

It's also bad that we didn't draft Levis last year. Because we're probably going to have to stretch for a qb or give up trade capital. If we take one in the draft.

If Dak is traded, we'll have to throw in some draft picks and/or eat a lot of his cap hit. A trade partner will not take him with his bloated salary without sweeteners.

Best approach is to sweat Dak's salary. Tell him he wont be playing in 2024 - that he's getting no reps so no need to bother turning up. Leave it up to him if he wants to arrange his own trade - if he still believes in himself. Cut Rush. Nothing against him, but he's not the answer and we need to clean out the QB room.

Go with Lance versus a 1st round pick in training camp and a cheap veteran 3rd stringer. Let McCarthy show us how good a coach he is and if he can produce with 1st round talent he chose.
A trade benefits Dak. He keeps his 29 million base salary.

We take the same deadcap hit.

2025 and 2026 are void.

But we save 34 million if we cut him before March.

Actually he played in 8 games over 2 years. Agree that's not near enough to know what he us. Love looked like crap his first 8 games. Folk forget the Pack was 3 and 6 at one point. Lance could be the real deal. We however will never know unless Dak is hurt badly (or gone) and Lance is the number 2 and/or number 1..

Sign Flacco to back up and let Lance play. Play Flacco if Lance sucks. Its better to take a step back in order to take two steps forward. With Dak, the team is stuck and not going anywhere.

The best thing for the Cowboys? Trade up and take a QB in the first. Then have a real QB competition in training camp. If Dak isn't cut, don't let him participate in the competition. We know he'll just choke when it matters. Might as well go with an unknown.

Dak's not the guy and never will be. It doesn't mean Lance will be either. Give yourself other options come training camp. Under no circumstances should they ever extend Dak. Get rid of that choker asap.

I’d like to think there was a master plan behind throwing away a 4th round pick for Lance. And now, after that playoff debacle, we will start to see that plan unleashed.

But this is Jerry. Who the heck knows.
