Tropical Storm / Hurricane Harvey

Hate to hear that. Looks like I will be getting a rental car after all, be in Lufkin sometime tomorrow night, then I will have a lifted 4wd, so if you need anything let me know.

Thanks but not sure what I will be doing now. I don't think there is a way I can get down South once there. I may end up hanging around here in NH for a week or so. The wife will be busy off with her family, our home is the last thing on our minds now :(

They used to be. Few years back GE bought the foundry and all the other accouterments, and promptly closed it down and sent the manufacturing overseas. There was a trailer division as well that made mainly aluminum flatbed big rig trailers, and a marine gear division that I believe is still functioning. They mostly make monstrous transmissions for ships and such as that.
Copy! And Thanks for the mental transfusion! I see the Lufkin trailers on the road,,didn't know evil G.E. bought them out,,,,hey, just saw on the web gasoline @ $8.76 per gal in Texas now and a case of Desanti water @$42.00,,,:omg:

EDIT: there is a new company in town, comprised mostly of ex Lufkin Industries employees that has a new design for pumping units they are supposed to start shipping them out soon. I know they built a big shop on the North side of town, but haven't really noticed for sure if they are operational yet.

" GO TEAM LUFKIN"

I pumped one well that we tried a new style out on as it was only designed for the 3-5 BPD wells ,that had a wine cork looking spiral screw in place of the old bronze sliding barrel pump, it was just a (3 phase,I think) electric motor running a belt driven pulley shiv that rotated those sucker rods,, it worked and the whole outfit would fit in the trunk of a car

Pretty much all any pumping unit boils down to. Some have larger gear boxes to give it more torque. I worked at LI many years ago grinding slag out of those gear boxes. Not my best career choice. Lol That was probably the dirtiest job I ever had.

Lol,,, they will lock up the works with any debris in there, I had several where the seals were leaking on both output shafts and ended up poking around inside of them,,,but it was an important job you had that needed done,,;)

What exactly do you do for a living?
Nothing really, and pretty much everything in between,,, I've a A class CDL and don't even feel like fighting the road much anymore, my best bro, drug me outta the house today ,,, wanting to know when I'm coming back to work,,, told him pretty soon ,,,lol,,,I'm still shanghai'd with him right nowo_O

Just got back home...and we are in to fixing up damages and a few unit rebuilds. A cooling tower was left down to the ground and will have to be completely reconstructed before the West Plant is operational again. Telephone poles and select damages as well. We are safe and no injuries at present, about the plant.

I made it home last night, and we just got electricity back yesterday. John, our son, was able to make it to kidney dialysis yesterday, without flooding.

Here, we bit the bullet and need to say our thanks to God...

our prayers still go out to those under the terrifying influences and in need. Take care our friends, help will come...and bank on it.

Thanks, all...

I have family and friends in Lake Charles area of La. I remember just dealing with flooding water there in the earlys 1980s and having to get my parents in a boat. And this is a 100 times worse. I spoke to brother on Friday in Sulphur La before the storm and they felt safe. After watching news this morning, it looks like they are getting pummeled. They got through Hurricanes Ike and Rita without much damage but I dont think they got this much rain. Got to call back and check on them.
