Some interesting points.

I love Romo but after almost 10 years of watching him..

my big drawback is that he doesn't elevate his game against the better teams and play from in front offensively.

We constantly fall behind and he is having to come back in 4th Qts and loses as many as he wins.

And it's not because of our defense.

It's because the offense under Romo usually averages only about 20 points a game.

Not blaming Romo but he is in charge of the offense and he has the burden of making the offense win.

Is he elite..no.

is he in the top 10 QBs..yes.

Is that enough..so far..no.

And here I thought I was just crazy. These people had me almost feeling crazy.

Finally a poster who understands the game, and is not just looking at stats just because he's a fan.

@jobberone This guy hit the nail on the head.

Did we protect Romo in 2013 or even 2011? His numbers in both those years were identical to 2014. You think if we had an elite QB, we win a SB in those years? Because I don't think so. I don't think any QB be it Rodgers or Brady would win in 2013 with that historically bad defense and inconsistent run game by fault of the offensive coaching staff. Look, I understand if you want to get rid of Romo (I don't). But replacing him with Manziel and Rg3 is not the answer. We would be worse with them.

I hear you, but I really do feel if we had more of an elite QB things would be different.

Goff will be gone before we get our pick and the Cowboys are leaning toward drafting WR Treadwell over QB Lynch so your point is falling on deaf ears at the FO. That's why I've been saying the long term solution for replacing Romo won't be acquired this off season. RG3 will be a short term back up.

Goff better not be gone

I don't. Because I don't think Romo has actually had good coaching since 2006. That same coaching staff wouldn't know what to do with Brady, what to do with either Manning, what to do with Big Ben. What to do with Aaron Rodgers. I am far far more down on this coaching staff than I am on Romo. Romo is the only reason this team could even compete. A better coaching staff and I think Romo would have had a better chance at a ring. I don't mind getting a QB in the draft. I just won't be excited about it. Because this coaching staff will coach him.

You don't think they would consider Wentz at 4?

Dane Bruglar said he talked to two GMs at the senior bowl and both GMs have Wentz in the top 10 on their boards.

Yeah, that I can 100% agree with you on. This coaching staff is trash.

I respect what Dane Bruglar says and I admit I haven't given Wentz the due diligence he deserves, so I'll have to do that before giving you a thumps up or down on the guy. I know that's not the answer you want but it's honest.

I'm a scientist. I don't base things on emotions. Nor do I base them just on stats. Every good scientist knows the stats/facts have to make sense. And I've always been a fan of good football play regardless of what team a player is on even an NFC East foe etc. If Romo were a Commander I'd still admire him. He has some shortcomings but most people understand how good a QB he is.

If you feel better then you're entitled to respond with ad hominem attacks. I understand as you really don't have any facts to stand on; just your opinion which we all see is long on opinion and actually, so far, devoid of facts.

Have a great night.

In the conference championship games, 3 out of the 4 QBs were drafted #1 overall.

The point is that finding another Tom Brady in the 6th round or finding another Tony Romo in UFA is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.

Wasn't RG3 drafted #1 overall?

Edit: He was 2nd overall, which is not too shabby.

Even after Treadwell's reported slow 40 time? Doubt we draft him at #4. Can see Bosa, Jack, or Ramsey before Treadwell imo.

What about both and getting rid of Romo?

There are QBs who will be available after the first. I hope a couple have good games and combine but not too good. Maybe one will fall to the bottom of the first so we can trade up (if he's all that) or we can get a QB in the 2nd or 3rd.

We will be drafting Treadwell with the 4th overall pick so how you going to get Romo's repalcement out of this draft? It's not happening. And I'm not saying RG3 is the long term solution to replace Romo. He is clearly a back up at best. Romo likes him and Jerry likes him so you not liking him means nothing. Cry and protest all you want... just get ready for him to come aboard.

well I could say the same thing. :)

btw I could live with Treadwell, he's a beast! just get Carson Wentz in 2nd round who would be ready to replace Romo in a year or two. I could live with this scenario

of course these 2 will be linked to the cowboys. big names, troubled times, cowboys. for some reason they all seem to go together. yes the cowboys need a dependable backup to romo and yes, again these are big names. but the key here is my clever use of the word "dependable". neither of these qb's have shown they can be counted on. manziel ever and RGIII never since his injury. neither are starters OR backups for their own respective teams yet we feel we can bring them in and suddenly wala, they're gamers man! ready to roll!!!

taking either of these would also likely mean no qb in the first few rounds. you've made your choice and going with them as both youth AND backup. moreso manziel but same thing overall. so why take a flyer on a project qb as your backup AND draft another project qb as your eventual starter. would anyone really feel safe and secure with:

Romo / Manziel / Rookie
or
Romo / RG III / Rookie

for next year? however who else is out there who can be the bus driver for us?

there are certainly a few out there in stanton, daniel, and others. i'd MUCH rather look in that direction than either of these 2.
