They've sold us that Stephen Jones is the new sheriff in town. It's all a ruse.

It does seem that Stephen is more prudent with the financials than Jerry, not a lot of spending in free agency, don't give aging players new contracts (see Murray), hold the line in negotiating with your own free agents (see Dez), ect....

So our cap is in a lot better shape under Stephen, but that is about it.

Not with a real GM, Jerry just pays. If he doesn't ultimately like what the GM produces, he hires anther GM and lets him largely run things. That's how successful teams operate.

What does a real gm have to do with hiring and firing coaches? That has been Jerry the owners job since day 1.

Yeah, that's what I got. He's basically saying the 20 year draught is due to overall mistakes and poor management and that there has to be a shift in how they think and do things or this stuff will just continue to repeat itself.

He also didn't say they were an 8-8 team. He asked the question, which many here have asked, is this team really a 12-4 quality franchise or did they just have that one magic season and are really nothing more than an 8-8 franchise. It's a valid question to ask.

Yep! that's what I took from reading the article.

I'd say Aikman is a fan too and is articulating his frustrations .

Can't say I'd disagree with him.

Allow me to add that I think the "practices" that Aikman referred to aren't the daily practices on the field but the practices of the FO regarding the overall management and coaching of this team.

Exactly!

A real owner hires a GM who does a detailed and exhaustive search for a coach who best fits the team and environment.

The coach then puts together his coaching staff based upon his contacts. ..coaches he has worked with before and others that may even be former players that he may be grooming. He is trusted, proven and has shown prior success in some coaching environment. The ability to build their own staff is a huge key to their success.

Jerry has instead ( outside of BP) hired coaches who have no other choices (Campo, Garrett )but to allow JJ to assemble the staff...not the head coach...again breaking the chain of command. For example take a LB coach who disagrees with the defensive cord...he should be accountable to the def cord and ultimately the HC...but not if JJ hired that LB coach.

It creates anarchy where the only one with the true power is the dictator who may be busy promoting the next concert or soccer match at AT&T stadium.

So the guy who is the builder, designer and who makes or okays all of the big decisions is really a part time employer.

Yay!!!

Lets take a quick look around and find a owner who handles all decisions from "jocks to socks" and has great success. OK search is over.

If you don't think Jerry runs the show and is responsible for the train wreck the past 20 years.... please raise your hand.

Even the most ardent Jerry supporters like Troy have had enough. It took Tom and Tex a while to build the premiere, most respected winning franchise and Jerry has brought it to the verge of no return.

Thank you for that.

Yea Troy, practices must change.

Yes. Good broad brush statement from Troy. And quite correct.

But give specifics as to the meaning that you would have taken.
