Here are some hypothetical extremes so-called realists should consider.
A fan can scream their throats raw and smash every breakable item in their home rooting for a win and their favorite team could still lose the game.
A fan can yell like a banshee and bang on pots-and-pans like a maniac rooting for a loss and their favorite team could still win the game.
What does any of this mean?
In this instance, a fan can root with all their might and the team may lose both remaining games. Likewise, a fan can root with all their might hoping the team will lose in order to pick up a high draft slot, only to watch them win both games. Neither effort will affect the games' outcomes in either case. Players and coaches are 100% responsible for what happens on the field. Fans? Be real.
So. Again. Sports is competition. Fans usually root for their favorite team to beat their opponent. Why does hypothetical draft seeding change any fans' reasoning for how they root for their favorite team? "Anti-rooting" runs counter to the nature of sports spectatorship. And all the anti-rooting means nothing in reality. In some folks' fantasies? Yes. In the real world? Nope. Doesn't do a thing except makes fellow fans roll their eyes wondering what the deal is for rooting against their mutually appreciated favorite team.
