I think with Season 4 (Trinity) being so intense and entertaining, they were forced to continue his story. It should've ended with him being either caught or dying (for real).

the whole carrying the dead sister out of the hospital and into the ocean was just...odd.

The Walking Dead.

Orphan Black. Tatiana Maslany is one of the most underrated character actresses on television.

Banshee comes back the 9th. Probably my favorite show.

Just finished watching the second season.

The show is not that great when it comes to the writing.
The show is completely unrealistic when it comes to the guy fighting every week (guy would be a walking concussion and constantly in the hospital)
The show has so many odd ball things (like former amish guy who is the gangsta and the other russian mafia and so on)

But I still really like it even though it is completely unbelievable and over the top cheesy.

I've kinda fallen for this show too and have gotten past a lot of the things you mention. his cross-dressing computer guy cracks me up.

various:

banshee: it is pure pulp but that is as american as it gets, i love it. i like the weird amish, native american, criminal cowboy angles.

true detective: only reason i didnt list it is i can not see it ever replicating the magic of woody and matthew. that was superb without doubt. but minus their acting that show would have been an empty vessel. not a heck of a lot actually happened beyond riding in the car or interviewing people, lol.

kurt sutter: yup, hope the next show has some heart and grit and depth. i don't think soa went downhill so much as he intentionally drove it off a cliff as part of the narrative.

Sounds like Sons of Anarchy. Bad writing, bad acting, unrealistic story lines but you just can't stop watching

I loved the ending of Soa. If you finished the season unimpressed then you probably missed a lot of th subtle side plots.

the problem with the short season shows of Homeland, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Downton Abbey, etc is that when they come back on a year later, I forgot what the show was about. Could be my age tho.

Why don't you re watch the previous seasons... Then when they come back you can time it so that the previous season just ended and new season begins ;-)

I really hope Dexter comes back at some point. That finale was very disappointing.

I don't know about a new full season of Dexter but a movie would be pretty sweet.

I didn't hate the end as much as most simply because it least it gave us the chance for a future.
If they were gonna do a full series then it would probably be best off with a focus on his kid growing up as a serial killer.

I didn't think there was much shark jumping in Dexter compared to virtually any show.
The reality is it is hard to catch criminals in planned crimes.... Much less if the criminal has unlimited knowledge and access.
Dexter killed 4 or 5 people for getting too close to the truth and derailed many others.
At the end of the day not sure police really look hard for a guy who is killing hardcore criminals.
Thought he ended up about as you'd expect running before getting caught or killed.
A guy like that was always going to run eventually.

Not to make this thread Dexter-centric, but what always bothered me was the writing following La Guerta's death. With Angel being her ex-husband and "best friend" you might say, his investigation into her death was pretty much non-existent. Maybe I missed something, but it seemed as if he got over her death too quickly for how much he was involved in her life (both personal and professional).
