Not to make this thread Dexter-centric, but what always bothered me was the writing following La Guerta's death. With Angel being her ex-husband and "best friend" you might say, his investigation into her death was pretty much non-existent. Maybe I missed something, but it seemed as if he got over her death too quickly for how much he was involved in her life (both personal and professional).
I can see that being odd and annoying.
I think Angel was pretty down on LaGuerta as a person. He certainly didn't appear to think highly of her at the end.
He almost seemed to view her as a kid that just couldn't get it together.
And he genuinely seemed to like and respect Dexter and his sister.
Like anyone doing anything wrong, at some point all the covering/lying is what gets you.
Dexter was on a string and it was gonna run out.
Show probably should have ended with his death, but that would have been pretty anti-climatic and expected.
By season 2 I would have said I expect it to end with his sister killing him.
Leaving the job and family stuff behind to start new was pretty genius IMHO.
And it seemed to fit the mindset and reality of the situation.
The live by the sword die by the sword thing seemed to constantly put people Dexter cared about at risk.
Once he realized he REALLY cared about those people he had no choice but to leave them in peace.
Basically any police department would have swept it under the rug rather than allow the public to know they had employed a serial killer if given any chance to do so.
I don't think that is sooo crazy. Not when you have people helping you like he did. He basically grew up in the department and knew those cops all his adult life.
He was a pretty carefully crafted psychopath.
Not one of the very best shows of the past decade but it's gotta be in that 2nd tier.
