Also, the word "bust" is thrown around rather loosely. A lot of Bill Parcell's perceived "busts" and pets are going to end up playing, and starting, and will likely have long careers in the NFL. Al Johnson started all year last year for the Cardinals, and they plan on him starting for many more. He's already started 45 games in 5 years in the NFL. There's absolutely no shame in being an 8 or 9 year starter in the NFL, and only a small percentage of people have that kind of career no matter what round you're picked in. Being out of the league within 3 years like Steve Scrifes or Mike Ulufale and never making any kind of contribution to their team in any way ... now that's a bust.

You can call Marcus Spears a bust, but the fact of the matter is he's started every game for the last 3 years .. and if the Cowboys released him today another 3-4 team would sign him tommorrow to start right away. He'll likely have an 7-10 year career as an NFL starter, there's a pretty low percentage of guys drafted even at the end of the first round who get to say that. Guys like Kenyon Coleman and Shanle were ridiculed here as Parcells pet players that couldn't play for anyone but Parcells, but as soon as they left here they went on to be every week starters for other NFL teams. Abram Elam started 16 games with the Jets. Stephen Peterman started all year last year. Julius will probably start 16 games next year for the Seahawks. Obviously the problem wasn't talent evaluation with those guys ... it just didn't work out for them here for whatever reason or they didn't meet expectations imposed on them with the fans. But when Jerry had "busts", they typically had no business playing in the National Football League and were out of the league in 4 years.

Another thing that slays me is that a lot of people accused Parcells of playing his veterans and never giving young guys a chance (which was utterly ridiculous when you look at the track record of his 4 years here), but when he went with unproven rookies like Patrick Watkins he's then accused of "not trying to fix the position".

Seriously, why did this turn out to be about Bill? This was supposed to be about JERRY WITHOUT BILL.

In other words, it looks like he's doing just fine without Bill. Whether Jerry was terrible before Bill is completely irrelevant. It looks like things are working out NOW.

these are facts....and people hate to be faced with them...actually very few people realize this because of the media love affair with parcells...he has ex-players on espn singing his praises...he has them on sirius nfl radio...he has them coaching througout the nfl....so he has enough ammunition to prevent the facts from taking center stage....again, Parcells was more positive than negative for this organization....but when we win, and yes we will....he will get most of the credit...and it would not be fair to jerry and the rest of the organization...not would it be true
parcells built the foundation of this team. jerry is now plugging the leaks.

And 24 months after Jimmy left Barry and Jerry were celebrating a Superbowl victory. That doesn't mean that either one of them knew what the heck they were doing, it just means that all the legwork had already been done for them and Jerry's incompetence would show itself in a slow erosion as opposed to a complete downfall.

Kudos to Jerry for not screwing anything up (and perhaps even significantly bettering the team). We'll better judge how well the last two offseasons have been five years from now, and I'll be more than willing to give him the credit or the blame. But for right now, let's win a playoff game before we get too enamored with ourselves.

Sure there's an explaination for it. Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparano are now with another organization, so obviously they also had a hand in all the bad picks as well.

You see Jerry Jones and Tom Ciskowski begged and pleaded for Bill not to draft Bobby Carpenter and Fasano, but Parcells/Sparano/Ireland ganged up on them and shouted them down.

When Marion Barber and Jay Ratliff were picked, Jeff Ireland was taking a bathroom break and Parcells was grabbing some beef briciole from the buffet table so Jerry was able to sneak over and whisper their names into the telephone without them ever knowing.

Say what you want, but surely if Jerry had wanted Spears and got outvoted for Ware, we would all be hearing a lot about it now (by you and others).

I'll give credit to Parcells. He changed the organization for the better and brought in a lot of talent. However, he was far from perfect, and was able to get us just above .500.

As to the point of the thread, so far Jerry has made good personnel decisions without Parcells. I hope he keeps it up.

I understood your point, but you had to have known how any evaluation of the post-BP regime would turn out.

Parcells is to far up his own arse - he may have done it before but now he is over the hill and over rated - of course the Cowboys got better, heck they couldn't have got much worse, but if he had stayed I don't think we would have had a 13-3 season it would have been more like a 10-6 at best.

Good luck Miami ...
