Two stats that say it all

Say the offense didn’t contribute, but Brian Schottenheimer‘s game plan has nothing to do with this. It wasn’t a bad game plan. It was bad execution so you can simmer down. Yes it was a total team loss, but you know what the offense should get a break every once in a while and score 16 points and not play well and win a game. They did it with Cooper Rush in 2022 so that’s the difference between these defenses and the old ones. They stepped up and beat the damn Rams a fully healthy Rams team playing horribly on offense. Yes Cooper rest was horrible. He never was gonna be a good starter so I hope you weren’t in that. He’s better than deck at running the offense from within lol Cooper had 100 yards passing in two fumbles the offense couldn’t get much at all going and yet they won the game. They should’ve won this game if we had any defense and special teams 16 points in the NFL is enough to win.

Offense to play perfect every single week weekend and week out for like three straight years now is insane expectations and they are allowed to have an off day. That’s the point here if we .Off to play perfect every single week weekend and week out for like three straight years now is insane expectations and they are allowed to have a off day. That’s the point here if we had a defense and special teams.

The last time you seen that that might be the last time, some of those Cooper Rush games from the defense played really well and hit a lot of his problems. That’s what we need now there are teams are around the NFL that actually win low scoring games with defense and special teams the Cowboys haven’t done that in so long. I can’t even remember where they can score under 17 points and win a game they should be the Jaguars defense has held the last 10 opponents under 20 points but many of them were under 17 that’s what great parts of your team dude the expectations is here the office either place perfectly or they get criticized.

Thing is, I’m not making excuses for the offense, but it’s their turn to have an off game and have the rest of the team pick them up
I'm sorry. I watched the all-22 three times. It was a bad game plan that so neglected the middle of the field that Bucs defenders could sit on the boundary routes. And with no routes underneath to dump the ball Prescott ended up having to hold the ball. And THEN the ball has to travel 20 - 25 yards in the air to reach one of the boundary receivers. With a TE and RB preoccupied with blocking the blitz it allowed only 3 receivers as options. This had negative consequences for any horizontal concepts you might want to run to get the ball out quickly for RAC...something ALL THREE OF THE COWBOYS RECEIVERS EXCEL AT. Shotgun on about 75% of the snaps. Shotgun on third and 3 or less. Aligning the RB forward of Prescott at times, thereby telegraphing to the defense that there wasn't a chance in hell that they were running the ball.

The offense wasn't perfect sir. I don't know why you are so emotionally invested in finding a HERO in all this. There isn't one.

You need to watch the all-22. And you need to ask yourself why it took so long for Schottenheimer to adjust. It was too much max protect with vertical routes. It was ill-advised. And it is something that will continue to dog the offense. There are times when you want a vertical attack but their also times when you want a horizontal attack...or a mixture of the two. And that adjustment should happen sooner rather than later. Schottenheimer put his own offense in a bad position most of the night.

The offense is not just the players. Johnson and Turner never put the Cowboys in positions to not succeed. They also ran the ball FAR more than the Cowboys are currently. 81 yards per game isn't even going to come close to cutting it long-term.

"JUST EXECUTE". That has been the mantra for decades in Dallas. How about scheming to help your players be the best version of themselves. Give your quarterback options. Give your wide receivers a chance. Run the dmn football as a foundational concept and not an afterthought.

Who says the offense needs to be perfect?! I’m saying it’s nice to see teams like last night, and I’m glad I watched before coming here to respond. That’s what a team looks like when the offense isn’t great, most of the year for both those teams, and the defense, special teams, and coaching keep the game within reach, low scoring, and they win.

That’s what our offense needs. As ugly as it was in the Tampa Bay game, they would have won with 16 points. You get that? I don’t think you understand,

sometimes the offense needs a break from the constant pressure. I don’t care if they turn the ball over a few times or aren’t perfect; you can still win games in this league if the OTHER two-thirds of your team show up.

So, stop talking about the offense, I don’t want to hear it.

Most of the year, Sam Darnold and Bo Nix look like average players, an improved version of Milton!! .And you want to talk about our quarterback? They’ve been under this kind of pressure for most of Dak’s career, having to do it all, play almost perfectly, or lose games, especially over the last two seasons and the start of this one.

You can pick on the offense all you want, but you’re missing the point entirely. They scored 16 points without even playing well, and after three quarters last night, the score was 14-3.

Even though the Seahawks’ offense struggled, they didn’t blame their defense, claim fatigue, or make excuses. They gave up only 30 yards in the second half and still lost in overtime. That defense held Denver to 14 points, watching their offense manage just three points in three quarters, yet never stopped playing. That’s what a team looks like, they don’t ask the offense to be perfect or carry the entire load.

Right now, the Cowboys are all offense, with nothing else going for them, and you want to nitpick the film?

No, I’m done listening.

They didn’t play well, but they still put up 16 points in four quarters, not overtime. Denver needed overtime and an interception to get those three extra points. You don’t have to be perfect on offense, and I don’t want nitpicking when they score enough to win most normal NFL games.

Sometimes you have to score a lot of points to win a game, especially with today’s NFL defenses not being so strong this year. Last season, heading into the playoffs and the Super Bowl, that’s what a real team looked like—helping each other win games. The old saying “complimentary football” doesn’t work on offense when you’re under pressure, expected to score on every drive with limited opportunities. The idea that they should simply be better on offense after watching the all-22 is ridiculous.

It was a short week, and Prescott’s hand, whenever it got stepped on, clearly affected the game.

SURE, they played sloppy football, but they deserve to have an off game and still win, something they haven’t had in a long time.

It’s hard to recall the last low-scoring game where the Dallas offense could just relax and play normally.

They can’t relax, because they’re criticized for punting or having a three-and-out despite having the fewest punts and three-and-outs in the NFL, even with the least possessions of any offense. Their efficiency has been impressive, even with the Tampa Bay game not being great. Until they have a defense and special teams that complete the team, there’s no reason to blame the offense, and right now, it doesn’t even look like the defense shows up.

Show me some games like the one we saw last night, then I’ll blame the offense for the loss. Even in the Green Bay game, people said it was all on Prescott because of his early turnovers, but how is that fair when Matthew Stafford led the league in interceptions, threw two in the Super Bowl, and still won? You know what they did with those interceptions? Aaron Donald and that defense erased them. That’s what a real team looks like, not one that lets Green Bay march down the field for five straight touchdown drives with little resistance. And yet you talk about the offense? I don’t want to hear about the offense! You get what I’m saying? I don’t care what you saw on film.

I think almost any OC/HC could score points with this offense. It would take some effort to screw it up.

On the other hand, I think there are lots of coaches who could improve this defense a lot. The talent is there.

I don't think this is a Super Bowl caliber team yet. But They should be way better than they have looked so far. \\Schottenheimer is a ball and chain around this team. No one would hire him as a HC. He is living off of Daddy's name.

What did we get ourselves into hiring shotty!!?
Schottenheimer's play calling has baffled me some. When this offense is running the ball well and gets inside the 5, he abandons the run and seems to get pass happy. It was in the Ravens game Javonte Williams is running all over Baltimore to the 3 yard line, Williams never touches the football again on that drive. And Dallas has to settle for 3, this is how you lose football games in this league.

Agreed. Tampa had a clear strategy of dominating TOP, reducing the numberof possessions for the Cowboys.

Dallas held the ball for 20:39 compared to Tampa Bay's 39:21, almost 19 minutes more than the Cowboys. That strategy worked because they had 241 yards rushing.
Yeah Dallas can't stop the run when they need to , and this Dallas offense is quick to abandon the run when it has been working well. As a result we are looking at 2 and 3 as our record, we are a 2 and 3 team, I expected much better during the off season, like many fans did.

An 0-4 team read us like a book.
That Tampa loss may have been the worst I have ever seen since 1973. That's saying something, cause there have been some ugly games over the decades under Ol Sour face Jones. I know because I have watched some ugly games over the last 30 plus years. Better yet have suffered through them.

Our offense much like last year will keep this team from hitting rock bottom even harder than it should with some easy opponents.

7 or 8 wins is much better than 3 or 4. And might even keep this staff in tact.

But it won’t bring the changes needed.
Dallas needs a get right game in a bad way against Green Bay. I wonder if Brian Schottenheimer has mentioned to the team it has been 10 years since it has beat the Packers.

So far in the second year of Brian Schottenheimer’s tenure, his overall record in 22 games as HC is 9-12-1. Obviously a lot more football to go this season and the NFC Least is shaping up to be a race for mediocrity, and we are just a game back. Plenty of time to get up off the mat.

There are two stats I ran across however that I think sums up what this team is most challenged with:
STAT ONE (Involving scoring)
  • When Cowboys score less than 30 points, Schotty’s record is 1-10.
  • When the Cowboys score 30 or more, Schotty’s record is 8-2-1.
  • The NFL avg for pts per game for teams is 23.
STAT TWO (offensive possessions)
  • Through 5 games, the Cowboys have the least number of offensive possessions with 45, or 9 possessions per game. League avg is 10.4 per game. Sea leads the league with 62 possessions or 12.4 possessions per game.
  • When you have to score 30 or more to win, and you don’t get that many possessions in a game, your offense is in a place where it has to score almost every time it has the ball.
Through 22 games under Schotty, we have less than a 10% chance of winning if we score less than 30. Ouch.

The hope for improvement: GETTING TURNOVERS AND SHORT POSSESSIONS FROM OPPONENTS. Turnovers and extra stops from your defense give your offense extra possessions along with some short fields.

Without more TOs from our defense giving our offense more possessions, our offense will have to continue to score 30 or more each week to win.

Hopefully Mike Pettine can help Chris Parker dial up some stops and TOs.
Relevant stats I agree

For the life of me , I can't figure out what is wrong when this team takes the field to play a football game. Let's beat Green Bay and get this train back on the tracks, the NFC East is there for the taking. Now we will see if Dallas can take advantage.

Completely agree. We can win this game. Their injury report is worse than ours.

So basically what you are saying-BH...When Dak plays like Superman we win. When he doesn't we lose:oops: That's been the story of Dak's career. Super Dak or bust. Name any other quarterback that goes into each game with the known burden that YOU-Dak have to put up 30 to even have a chance, That doesn't happen even in Cleveland.

Poor Dak has never had a 13-3 team around him with home field advantage.

Poor Dak has never had a top 10 defense at the same time as having the leagues leading RB.

Poor, poor Dak.

I like points per drive stats.

You are completely correct, and that is an important distinction.
When looking strictly at actual games played (ignoring the calendar weeks and byes completely), the Dallas Cowboys are the only team in the NFL to reach their 7th game with only 2 home games under their belt.
