Terrible idea to start him at LT especially when he's been playing LG all throughout preseason. I'm not happy that Mcgovern is playing guard. He was worse than Conner Williams when he came in. Now they think that their problems are solved at the LG position, which baffles me to say the least.

So it is speculation on your part.

I mean, you very well might be right, but there is nothing official from the team, which is what I’m saying… and why the NFL Network is still speculating. They don’t deal in a “anybody can figure it out” world.

The team hasn’t said that he is going to start at LT.
Maybe they are stupid and didn't listen to the interview.

From Stephens interview from another forum:

KEVIN: Does the perception of lack of preparation at tackle bother you at all? Because a lot of people are saying that and I get the sense y’all don’t agree that y’all were not prepared for injury contingencies with Tyron Smith.

STEPHEN – “That’s why we drafted, at the end of the day, why we did draft Tyler Smith. I think we’re very much on record saying we thought he was going to be our future left tackle. We were looking for ways to get him on the field sooner and thought with Tyron coming into camp healthy, you know, that Tyron is one of the best in the business when healthy, if not the best. That’s why we were playing him at guard. But we really think his long-term future in the NFL is left tackle. It’s why we drafted him in the first round to ultimately be our future left tackle and feel good about where that is. Of course we’re getting [Matt] Waletzko back here. You hate he missed two to three weeks of camp. Obviously feel good about him. [Josh] Ball is almost a rookie. He didn’t get to pad up any last year and he’s made progress in camp. So, feel good about that, and certainly the interior spots with Connor McGovern. I think he’s had a really solid camp, [Matt] Farniok, those type of players. We feel good about where we’re going and what our situation looks like. I say it always: we’re always looking to upgrade our roster and certainly we’ll look to continue to make ourselves better. Certainly the offensive line is one where we aren’t loaded with depth there, but certainly something we’ll continue to look at as things come to fruition over the next two to three days as teams are going to have to expose a lot of players and we’ll look at that and we’ll look at the veterans that are out there and see if we need to beef up right there.”

IS TYLER SMITH FEELING HEALTHY RIGHT NOW? – “Yes. He’s ready to go. Barring something unforeseen to start practice, he was a green light to start practice today.”

CORY: Is the plan at the moment for Tampa for your tackle to be an in-house person?

STEPHEN – “The plan is for it to be an in-house person.”

I don't see SJ saying Tyler will start week 1 at LT. Jones emphasized that they did draft Smith to hopefully be their next LT but he stops short at saying Smith is now the LT.

Well trial by fire, I guess. He isn't ready but here we are. Long term, if Tyler can prove to be a good starting Left tackle, it will make our rebuild of the line much more feasible. Otherwise, we would be looking at a starting left tackle (good luck finding one really good), possibly center, possibly right tackle and possibly a backup interior lineman. Just finding a good LT is a lot to ask for much less the rest. Hopefully by year end, with a lot of ups and downs we feel good on Smith's development.

t’s not close to ‘musical chairs’. That’s a false claim. They would be moving exactly ONE PLAYER. One of their best players and clearly their best offensive lineman. One who has played the position.

One player? Then who is playing RG? Presume you'll have McGovern there, who I don't think has played RG this camp at all. That's moving 2 players. So not only does either play not have reps playing that position, but they lose the continuity they've built with the guy playing next to them! So this move weakens you RT in addition to RG. Perhaps LT & LG eventually get there, but they'll need to build it up.

I don't like it. At this point, just plug Tyler in there if you're not going to sign someone.

true.
but also took reps at left tackle before that.
he himself has said he feels more comfortable at tackle...its what he's used to.
he wasn't drafted to be a guard his entire stint here.
they may have wanted to initiate him at guard this season but this league has a way of tearing up your plans.
i'm excited for him.
If you watched his college tape at tackle you would not be excited

If KMoore wouldn't run a little bit last time against Tampa.......he is about to get Dak in a bad situation. Hold Tyler hold, unlike Chaz Greene vs ATL below.

Immediately: I need 12 personnel early and often. Three yards in a cloud of dust and a lot of play action rollouts. Take care of the ball and punts are OK. Anger + Good defense is our meal ticket.

Maybe the best option on the roster, but exceedingly far from the best option. Clown shoes management. Gee, I wonder why this team hasn’t been to a Super Bowl in decades.

I predict 4 penalties and 1 sack given up by Tyler Smith week 1.

What's the over-under on holding penalties? :)

Just kidding....not really.
