I agree. While Hanna hasn't done much and Escobar nothing, I don't see them both failing. And Witten and Rosario are solid vets are in Witten's case HOF bound. Not worried about TE. It's generally a position you haven't worried about a great deal that bites you in the fanny anyway.
I think the biggest risk with Escobar/Hanna is not so much that our offense is doomed without them. Rather a waste of draft resources if they don't pan out. And there the primary focus will be on the 2nd round pick. Escobar was already a controversial pick. He's not going to get much grace from the fans if he fails to contribute.
Exactly. Let's at least see a preseason game or two for crying out loud before all the sky is falling articles and posts start up.
It is funny though... If Fisher had said that Escobar looked great, no one would be calling him a know-nothing media knee jerker.
Fisher is about 90% positive on what he says about the Cowboys. He's the unofficial-official insider of the Cowboys' own flagship radio station. If he says something less than positive, there might be some truth to it.
I cannot imagine Jerra drafting poorly performing players.
Garret has drafted really well, I have faith

The more basic objection I have to the pick ..... this team needs the ball in Dez's hands. That is how we are going to succeed. Taking two more receiving targets in the 2nd and 3rd means more mouths to feed. That is what I most disliked about the picks.
Mike Fisher reported some troubling news last night while browsing the local airwaves. (For the record, Fisher is a good reporter, though his commentary is difficult to stomach unless you're left of Fidel Castro.)
According to Fisher, we've got major issues at the tight end position currently.
First, Escobar has the strength of a sophomore girl in high school. He can block no one, and he's getting pushed around at the line of scrimmage like a ragdoll. He only pressed 225 a total of 12 times at the combine, which is extremely weak. There are literally gobs of high school football players that can do that.
Second, Hanna ain't getting it. The 12 and 13 scheme packages are apparently not soaking into his brain pan in Callahan's zone blocking scheme. It's apparently been preached to him for months now, but it might as well be written in Klingon crayon, because the dude is lost.
Hanna might be fixable in a long camp, but this Escobar thing is troubling. Strength is an offseason gain. To make things more dicey, Vickers was cut, so unless this McSurdy experiment works, there probably won't be a fullback on the roster.
Mostly, I think this means that Dante Rosario is going to be the #2 tight end on the roster.
On a good note, Fisher also said that Will Allen looks tremendous so far, and the coaches think he'll be a big contributor this season.
Since when has Jerra given up the draft day duties? LOL. Ever thang goes through Jerra.
Garret has a ton of input... Otherwise Sharif Floyd would have been our 1st rd pick

I don't think there's enough evidence from the few OTA and minicamp practices Fisher has seen to determine this. But I wouldn't be surprised if Rosario ends up with a bigger role because of his experience vs. the growth needs for Escobar and Hanna.
We cut Vickers, so obviously Dallas believes more in the personnel it has at tight end than Fisher does.

#cowboys issue of the day 5) TE Escobar's lack of upper-body strength getting him pushed around inside + when lining up as FB.
This isn't the rumor but who knows who made the call. I actually think this one was Jerry's and Stephan's call but it could have been consensus. I don't know the real truth.
It was fairly apparent if you were watching on game day how everything broke down. I think iceman's pretty clearly got this one backwards. It was Garrett and Ciskowski who wanted to stick to the draft board.
Wut?
