I’m in favor of UBI. AI driven automation is going to put 30-60% of people out of work in the next decade or two. I see no real alternative.

I mentioned this years ago in here. You're right with the impending technological advance there will be amalgamation, consolidation and elimination of service/production industry with automation. There won't be jobs in the future so something is going to have to give.

No need, the need for human beings will become obsolete.

There was a film made in 1970, Colossus: The Forbin Project, that depicted the danger of AI and that was not actually the goal in the film, just the by product, and we already have some of the best minds on this planet warning us about the inherent danger. Think their warnings will be heeded? I do not.

Star Trek's Utopian Society. Just remove money from the equation and assign everyone a job to do. You do your job, you eat and get health care. Power is dictated by how productive you are and money is irrelevant. (Money is the big corrupter anyhow)

Of course, this won't work until replicators become a thing where the only limit to what you need is energy. E=MC2 says we won't run out of energy, but we just need to get to that point first.

I've wondered if this could work, but I'm not sure. My big question would be how would you get people to do the really obnoxious, gross, and dangerous jobs like cleaning out the sewer, working on power lines, etc.?

Those jobs would have pay more, be automated, or be done a different way.

You get assigned a job duty / training based on your attributes. You do the job assigned to you or you are booted from society.

I believe he is talking about the Utopian Society (ala Star Trek) where their is no currency and therefore would be no job pay. Everything you need is supplied to you providing you do the job asked of you.

Of course it would never work

Take away the incentive to work and everyone becomes a leech

If everyone got an A on their term paper no matter what, how much time would you put in?

A temporary safety net in one thing but a large monthly check for doing nothing is fantasy land

That isn't the way a Utopian Society works. If you don't work, you don't eat and are forced to leave the society. You starve to death and die all alone.

I agree with this and part of a human's job should be to improve themselves mentally physically emotionally spiritually. "Job" should not just be considered doing work for the system but also for the self.
