I believe they made the proper call. However, I would bet that exact same thing has happened hundreds of times without being called.
Last time it was the defintion of what was a "catch " with G.Bay.......

Now Blandino has to expalin.........what is officically a huddle?......a half circle of most of the Oline?....or a full circle with everyone holding hands?

I disagree. That's not, by any reasonable measure, a "huddle".

And that's why it's usually seen plenty and not called.

I will never understand why it was called here. And why the play wasn't dead before the call in the first place.

Just a dumb obscure ruling that kind of screwed us early on

I do hope Jerry pushes this and gets an official explanation.

Totally confusing, obscure, BS call multiple media people and fans admit to having NEVER heard in all their years watching football. AND I didn't see him participate in the huddle.
The majority of the players in the game weren't alive the last time it was called in the NFL. I'm guessing a good portion of the NFL reporters weren't out of college yet. Its the definition of obscure and shouldn't be a 15 yard foul. Its the only substution penalty I've ever heard of being more then a 5 yard flag.

He is not in the huddle, there is a team mate standing in front of him. It was totally bogus.

2 penalties on the Packers and one was a FS they had to call and the other was a guy hitting Dez 2 seconds before the ball arrived. Nothing else. Give me a break, a crap team, suddenly plays a near perfect game.

I agree this was a bogus penalty but I chalk it up to JG not having the team prepared. You can't have these kind of gaffes 19 weeks into the season.

I dunno. How do you prepare for a penalty that's never enforced?

It's not like they had a delay of game because of the actions of butler.

They had the wrong guy in, the right one came in, and they ran a successful play.

Weirdly, the flag came after the play was over when clearly the penalty was always going to be imminent.

That's what really pisses me off

Just another made-up call like in 2014.

There is NO HUDDLE yet and Butler isn't even communicating to any teammate in the huddle and is looking at the sideline to the coaches, just like Dak is..
Looks like a legit penalty. Maybe the Cowboys should get their crap together. They were consistently outclassed by trying to sub players on defense and offense.

I'm on EVERYONE'S side in this thread......BUT.....

The D still can't give up 34 at home on a week's rest to a team with a WR playing RB and no Jordy. It's embarrassing, like it has been for more than a decade.

Yep....fix the front 7 next year and we'll be ready to roll. We might win 10 or 11 games but we need some junk yard dogs in that front 7. They were meek pups tonight and got beat. HELD and beat.

All great points. Just an outrageous call for an NFL playoff game.

Regardless of the call I don't want Butler on my football team. I want smart players and he is a dunce! He had a stupid penalty in GB on a long pass as well earlier in the year. Dumb football player.

Yep. Did you see him go over to Dak and talk crap when Dak air mailed him on 3rd and long. The guy is a complete idiot. Dak looked like he was talking to someone that just got off the short bus.

And again, someone else on twitter is saying the intent is really to not run a guy in quickly, have the defense adjust and then run the guy out trying to catch the D putting in a certain package.

Butler seems to have run in, Williams ran out, then Williams ran back in and Butler left. So it wasn't like we ran in two OL signaling we were going to run the ball, then quickly ran Butler back in trying to catch the Pack in some sort of "jumbo" D.
That wording leaves too much in the referees hands. That may in there is complete crap and while it may have been within their right by the rules, it seems wrong. There's no way that people who have been around football, watched football, or played football for years and years have never seen that penalty if it's not at best an awful call. That penalty has to at minimum happen several times a week and for it to not be seen, reeks something awful.

One, if the penalty states the player runs into the huddle and leaves, then that's a bad call. That wasn't a huddle. Dak is standing like 4 yards away with his back to his teammates.

Two, the intent of the rule is to prevent teams from simulating substitutions in order to confuse the other team. What confusion was caused here? Butler ran in for TWill and then apparently realized he shouldn't be in and they waved him off and TWill, a WR, ran back in.

There was clearly no intent to deceive the defense as if they had run an OL in for Williams and then tried to catch GB off guard by then trying to switch quickly.

Bogus call IMO and I am not one to complain about officials.

This is JG's 7th season as the HC and 10th season as coach for the Boys. He should know that this could be called. It's his job to know and not chance it.

It was a dumb call but dumber on our part for even being in that situation.
