Kickers can play forever. Why plan on cutting him now when he could have 10+ years ahead of him?
All that matters is what's guaranteed. If he has some ballooned, unguaranteed salary in the final year, it can be renegotiated and he can be extended at that time. As long as it's not guaranteed, it doesn't matter what the paper says.

I like Bailey, but signing him through 2020? Really? Do we really know he'll still be a good kicker 6 years from now?

so you rather let him walk and hope you can find another. he is a RFA, so if you tendered him a 1st rnd tender it would have been 2.8 mil next year against the cap. with a new deal it's probably closer to 1 mil next year

Didn't say that. Just conflicted. Our old ways of doing things would be to use the coach..Hoffman...train up the next guy. I know it breaks down differently but I still think there are risks to that much money towards a kicker.

Very good news at a time when it is scarce.

Bailey is a great kicker and very deserving if this contract extension.

It's been good to not have to worry about this position for the past few years.

And now hopefully, the next few years.

That is good news!

Good teams almost always have good kickers. It's one of the few things that good teams actually all have in common as far as how they're constructed. 2-3 games lost to missed field goals is the difference between 8-8 and 10-6 or 11-5.

OMG!!!! You Gotta love Bailey.....But 3.3 million a year for a kicker?????????? this just stinks of another bad deal/over paying by Jerry. I can see in a couple of years people laughing out loud @ this contract.

that is why we will be mediocore until Jerry is gone. We are not a kicker away from going to the superbowl or going to the playoffs.
Find another kicker as undrafted free agent and spend that money on OL/DL. You can get a very quality OG for that money for next 7 years....btw, I love Dan but this deal doesn't make any business sense

Just hope he doesn't get a case of the Vanderjagt's and loses it overnight, I'll never understand how a guy can go from being the best kicker in the game to getting the yips and not even making a roster.
Bad memories. What a black eye he turned out to be.

Bailey has been fantastic, and I have no problem with locking him up, as opposed to trying to hit on another rookie UDFA or guy off the street. That said, for a team with a difficult salary cap situation, that's a lot of money to pay a kicker.

Not always. It is rare, but every now and then a good team will have a bad kicker. The 1992 Dallas Cowboys had a bad kicker.

Solid move.

In today's league of parity you're going to have so many games decided by a field goal or less it's imperative to have a kicker you can trust. Bailey is money and ice cold in the clutch.

Just hope he doesn't get a case of the Vanderjagt's and loses it overnight, I'll never understand how a guy can go from being the best kicker in the game to getting the yips and not even making a roster.
And that is why u don't pay kickers

since we have'nt seen the contract we don't know how the deal is even structured. chances are he will make less next year then he would have had we tendered him. and the length of the deal is about spreading the money out. does'nt mean we are stuck with him for 7 years.

I like the resign. I don't care about the money. It's not mine. I don't know why people worry so much about that sort of stuff. If 3 million each year is the difference between being good and not being good then the team has problems anyway.

Stretched out to be cap friendly. But if he suffers an injury or begins to suck, as you know, only the guaranteed part really matters.

In a pre-cap pre-parity era in which they didn't have games coming down to the end every week.
