Umm no, there was no real need at the position. I believe the young players like Crayton, Hurd and Austin will take even bigger steps in 2007, so I wouldn't call that a big need in 2007.

Stanback?

Anyone who doesnt see a difference in the personnell decisions from 1995-2001 and 2002 to present is a moron.

The Cowboys got calls from other teams after we picked Stanback saying that we got their guy. He would not have lasted to our next pick.

He is a project but this is a 4th round pick in a very weak draft. What bodes well is that in month 5 in a 8 month rehab he is already running a 4.6. Essentially he just got his boot off had not run in 5+ months was still injured and ran a 4.6. That is what the scouts were reporting as his figure. When he wasnt hurt he was running 4.4 and better. Apparently the technique he uses to catch the ball is good already so he needs to work on routes etc.

WR are very difficult to predict. Outside of QB the most difficult position to project. However if he returns to form that will make him 6-2 200 with 4.4 speed. His agility is apparent in the moves he puts on people in the open field. The guy breaks ankles. That certainly is a lot of ifs but he has the potential to be allpro.
You guys sure do buy everything Jerry tells you...

Yes he is

big dog cowboy;1511578 said:
So Stanback is injured. So what? We have drafted hurt guys before. I don't know about "most accounts" but if we would have waited on Stanback, he would have been gone. We know this for a fact.
We took a project in the 4th, not just any project but an injured project... Not only an injured project but a seriously injured project. We don't know that, that is what Jerry Said, but it doesn't make it true. He said the same crap about Quincy

big dog cowboy;1511578 said:
We took a guy in the 4th round we think will be better than any other WR's available then. Sorry but I'll trust the scouts over your argument.
You can trust them, but I trust what I have seen from 10 years of Jerry running the drafts. Parcells isn't here to stop him anymore, and even with Parcells we made some ******** picks...

I was being sarcastic, Matt Jones was a waste of a first round pick... :bang2:

Sounds like someone's crying because they didn't get the 'shiny object' they were hoping for on Christmas......

No just trying to understand the blind defense of a questionable pick, by an even more questionable GM...

The pick took me by surprise, too, but to just blindly lay the blame at Jerry's feet is a stretch.

Jones has certainly had his stinkers in past drafts, but by all accounts, that was an Ireland selection if you payed any attention to the articles that came out in the weeks after the draft.

This thread should reappear in 3.5 years in the middle of that season. Then we'll have a good idea how smart or not the pick was.
No kiddin', can't wait to re-visit this then! Geez, all this yackity-yack about a 4th rounder?! Guess it means Jerry & Co. DID NOT mess up w/ our earlier picks cuz no one cryin' over them. :)

More Boondocks common sense for the masses. If you're not buying season tickets or losing money betting the games, it's hard to see what Jones is doing that's causing you so much pain. Run yourself a pro franchise so we can see how easy it is.

Another case of the Man keeping you down?

Henry [and his sidekick Aaron Glenn] is the main reason Dallas needed to draft a DB high in the 2007 draft. [drafting two corners in the 7th round is not funny]

We passed on a blue chip QB.

Many of us also wanted to see quality picks.

Especially at CB/DB, NT, and WR.

This Draft is very disappointing.

eduncan22;1477213 said:
Yep. There is more..

- Passing on Blue Chip QB
- Drafting another DE/OLB? when we already have Ware, Carp, and Ellis
- Passing on all the Blue Chip DBs
- No 2nd round picks?

This tells me they are happy with Henry and A Glenn [two of the biggest problems last season in the secondary]

We gotta see something today.

;)

I don't need to run my own NFL team to know that Jerry has done a piss poor job as GM since oh about 1994.

Running a business and being the GM are two different things. Jerry does a great job of running the business of the Dallas Cowboys, with merchandising, marketing and the like. He sucks as a GM...

Stanback in the 4th round was a reach of epic proportions, be it by Ireland or Jerry, ultimatly it is Jones's fault.

You keep telling yourself he isn't, and if he isn't on the roster at years end or by the end of next season don't start *****ing about the pick then.

You used 'if', but in a previous posts you've stated, "Stanback was the biggest reach and worst pick in the draft. There was just no need to pick him there, none at all... As an aside, I don't call drafting a QB to convert to WR addressing the needs at WR..." and "We took a project in the 4th, not just any project but an injured project... Not only an injured project but a seriously injured project. We don't know that, that is what Jerry Said, but it doesn't make it true. He said the same crap about Quincy". You seem awfully sure about Stanback. Why use an 'if' about his status this season or next season?

***....
Because it doesn't change the fact that I feel it was a bad choice.

C'mon, man. You can do better than that.

Jerry has had his fair share of gaffes, nobody is saying he hasn't. But it seems to me you're just looking for a reason to skewer him yet again. Ireland himself has said that Stanback was his boy.

Whine about him for awhile.

Yeah, but are you also saying that Stanback a.k.a. 'the bad choice' won't be productive this season or next season simply because, in your opinion, he was a bad choice?

And?????

He was a bad choice even if he isn't cut this year or next. Ekuban was a bad choice, so was Sherman Williams, Quincy Carter, Tony Dixon, Lefluer, the list could go on and on all lasted more than a year or two on the team. That doesn't change that they were bad picks...

No I don't think I really can, as an aside I was joking... I really don't care if Ireland said to pick him or not, Jerry is in charge and ultimatly responsible...

I want to blame Jerry, because well I can...
