You would think the CFL would bring more players to the nfl
It’s been around a long time and is fairly popular but not many guys get to the nfl from cfl

I watched most of this game, there was one play that lost the game for the panthers, at around the houston 30 , the qb was going to pass, but slipped and fell down as he was rolling out.
He then got up and was taking off, was hit from behind, and the tackler knocked the ball out. Another defender runs to the ball, it bounces up to him and he runs 70 yds for td.

That was a killer.

I cant watch the other games, as I dont have FS1 or usa ch. but they are fun to watch. It will get better as season goes along.

ABout no one being at the game, these are all played in birmingham, and they showed up for their team, but only about 50 people there for this early game with houston.
Thing is to see all the games today they would have to show up at noon, and sit there all day to see all 3 games lol.
So most of the time they wont have a crowd there. They should use a canned crowd noise.

So far less penaltys than nfl, and way fewer replays. a 35 second clock instead of 40.

One flaw I see, is they have kickers who are not that good, but they made goal posts more narrow than NFL , and they should have made them a little wider or the same,
So more kicks would be made.

The CFL has been the last resort for many players. They usually end up there when they can’t make an NFL roster. The rules are different in the CFL and the field is bigger. There’s been very few players that have had success in the CFL go on to have success in the NFL. Warren Moon and Doug Flutie are the only ones I can think of. Flutie got his feet wet in the NFL first before going to the CFL. He came back to the NFL a better player.

How are teams supposed to develop a fanbase if they're playing out of state? In a city where almost nobody lives, no less?

I'm guessing it's likely cost-related, but are you telling me there isn't a JC school they could play in locally? Why the heck would, say, Philly care about a team playing in Birmingham?

this is the first week of games, so there are going to be flaws.

It makes me wonder how the AFL did what they did back in the 60's.
they put teams in each city, got the games on tv, and built a better product than the NFL had.
They also got good college players , which is much harder today, but I imagine it wasnt easy back then either.

All the teams are based in Birmingham. they dont come there to play.
it saves travel costs, but also eliminated stadium money they could get playing in other citys. they also use same facilitys I guess.
And it may be easier for networks to cover the games, since they will all be in one town lol

The AFL succeeded because when the NFL was expanding - many of the initial applicants were denied in getting a franchise. They were motivated and driven to create a separate professional football league.
They did it by:
1) Established franchises in major cities without NFL teams. The AFL even relocated two of their inaugural eight teams from NFL cities (Chargers moved from Los Angeles to San Diego; Texans left Dallas for Kansas City- then renamed the team the Chiefs).
2) Secured broadcast contacts with two of the major networks. (I watched the AFL on NBC...didn’t get the games on ABC where I lived back then.)
3) Signed most of the NFL's 1st round draft picks for their first season (1960)
4) Shunned the traditional run-dominated offenses of the NFL for throwing the football
5) AFL initially outdid the NFL in drafting- signing players from black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

Which is why they end to be the Cowboys minor league team. You'd be interested in a qb playing that was under contract with the nfl club playing in spring.

I think the problem is everyone puts so much money into making it a huge event year 1 and it doesn’t return the same investment and it flops. They should start smaller, build a reputation in the individual cities and then go big once it’s a known brand. I had no idea USFL started today, and most casual people don’t even know what it is.

A decent niche doesnt hurt either. Arena had a very good run, and even had their own sub leagues. We had an A2 team locally and it was always a fun night out

You can injure yourself getting out of bed. And......"practice"...is just as physical as any game.

Odds aren’t on their side but I have enjoyed the little bit I’ve watched so far….The tackling has been clean and WR are catching balls but I have seen some bad throws

idk how long the season are but they need to make these new foot ball league closer to training camp when there is less to watch and people are ready for foot ball again

I agree with you but I am sure the plan is get their feet under them first and then move out to their respective teams. They were working with the rules of the pandemic when they were developing it and I think the idea of a bubble probably made the most sense.
