It's no secret that I don't like Garret, because he sucks....BUT, I think he's a pretty good analyst....I've enjoyed listening to him...hopefully, he'll get a gig calling NFL games..

I keep thinking he's Tony Dungy. He has just a little bit of the same tone and cadence.

They were much smarter about building a league this time. They are not trying to match the NFL in talent. They are not trying to outbid NFL teams.

It seems as though they are willing to start out as a "minor" league by grabbing the next tier of college talent.

With the sophistication and training of college football players these days, not to mention sheer number of college football players around the country, I believe there is plenty of talent left over from the NFL to form another league with justifiable talent.

The technical innovations such as the unique camera angles are interesting.

The USFL did a very smart thing, making Daryl Johnston the Executive Vice President of Operations. Daryl graduated from Syracuse with a perfect 4.0 GPA, just to show he isn't the typical perception of a college football athlete.

I had often pondered a few names as a potential Cowboys GM and he is close to the top of the list.

Starts tonight at 6:30 CST. On FOX & NBC.
I doubt I watch all of the game, may will tune in for a little while.

NJ Generals - Birmingham Stallions.

have not looked to see if any other games on other channels.
I wish these teams were connected to nfl teams like minor league baseball. It would automatically make it be a success.

This league is doomed to fail like so many before them. I won’t invest my time in it.
I don't think so. Times have changed. Phones, computers, internet, dvrs, all allow viewers to watch on their terms. The usfl was a solid product long ago. They made a mistake and it cost them. Hopefully people have learned, you can not compete with the nfl. Trying to do so ensure you will fail.

No one on the stands and they ate playing hard. I love it!! Fans in the stands are great, but not necessary when you play for the love of the game.

Too much wear and tear on players. You can’t just bring a player up to the NFL after they’ve played during the spring. Their bodies wouldn’t be able to handle all that football. They would be injured most of the time and never be able to recover from injuries.
Bs....it wouldn't be a traditional minor league. More of an opportunity to showcase skills. A player looks great, nfl signs them. Done.

Investing time? Hell, I'm sitting here bored on a Saturday night. The game's on, I'll watch a little porn, and down a few cold ones.
Exactly why they are giving it a go. The nfl prices you can never have on too much football. The ratings are ALWAYS high. So spring is a time people are doing for football, so why not.

They would have to play games to showcase their skills which would subject them to wear and tear and injuries. NFL teams aren’t going to allow players they draft and show promise to be coached by other coaching staffs. This is why the NFL has practice squads. They want their players to be coached up by their own coaching staffs.

Again you’re suggesting minor league football that would be played in the spring. Most of these players in the USFL had their shot in the NFL and will never get back. The NFL tried using the World League of American football in Europe as a developmental league. Each NFL team sent a few players up there. NFL teams aren’t going to risk the health of talented players in a developmental minor-league system. Plus the rules in these leagues are different than the NFL. No NFL team is going to send a talented player to a developmental league so they can tear up a knee or something else. You would shorten a players career playing that much football.
Nobody suggested sending current nfl players to play. These were fine players. You will never convince me they're isn't players that don't get the chance that could be a starter. Kurt Warner anyone?

Kurt Warner was a very rare exception. Feel free to name some others. lol Young players get plenty of chance to showcase their skills during OTA’s, training camp and preseason games.

The NFL does not have enough quality to stock any 32 positions on the teams and they think people will flock to games with players not even good enough to make a NFL team.

Just take the OG position, picked that one because the Cowboys need one. There are approximately 128 OG's in the NFL and the Cowboys can only manage to get one good one? Some teams are so strapped at that position, they go for the Cowboys castoff.

This is nothing more than greed on display.

The exception becoming the rule now?

the only negative I see from this is, that football fans might decide to watch this more because these kids are playing hard because they love the sport. NFL is now more about money. 2cents.

Panthers fought back from a 0 - 17 deficit; but their center to quarterback exchanges plagued them throughout the game.
