Congratulations!

This guy has a future in the NFL

Coaches must see something here.

01/01/14 - 2013 AFCA DIVISION II COACHES’ ALL-AMERICA TEAM: QB Dustin Vaughan, Sr., West Texas A&M,...Vaughan, a native of Corpus Christi, Texas/Calallen High School, continues to rack up the accolades. He went 447 of 675 for a 66.2 average with 5,401 yards and 53 touchdown passes in 2013. Vaughan is the only quarterback at any level to pass for 5,000 yards this season as he led the nation in passing and was second in passing yards per game.

I like him, but I honestly still think he gets cut and placed on the PS.

Keep in mind we had street guys blocking for him. I'm more concerned with Spencer transaction. I feel like he's being rushed back.

I think we panicked for no reason. Better more experienced QBs were cut.

He might be worth developing but not quite roster spot worthy based on the fact he did not exactly rise to the occasion in the final preseason game.

IMO...he did. The line blocked no one and wrs didnt make plays ffor him.

He did show a great arm and accuracy as well as a good feel for the rush with some escapability.

I think you are cutting him short...

My reasoning for keeping three QB's is because of Romo. Face it...if Romo were to go down and Weeden has to carry the load, what happens if he goes down? And, at least Vaughan has been through training camp and knows the offense.

Sure, there might be a few better QB's that will be cut (per Alexander, who won't name them), but they will have to be brought up to speed and that ship has sailed.

I'm with 5Stars on this (and we're probably in the vast minority here). But I'm OK with keeping Vaughan for now. I admit that I wish we would have kept some other guys, but this QB does intrigue me. It seems like he's got the intangibles that you just can't teach, as well as optimal size (6"5' or 6'6") and a strong accurate arm.

There may be other guys out there who are more polished than Vaughan, but at least he knows the system (relatively speaking). And given that Romo's back is no guarantee at this point, I feel like we'll need to ride with a 3rd QB this year.

He's gotta be better than Clint Stoerner, Anthony Wright, or Stephen McGee, right?

I think the team is keeping Vaughn just for Insurance this season because of Romo. If Romo had not had the setbacks he has had for the last two years, they don't need to keep 3QB's, so, like it or not, I think it is a good move. And, it's still early! Hell, he could be kept for trade bait later on during the season?

What's it going to be then, eh?

I get the scared of Romo's back thing. And I do think Vaughan has skills to work with. I just do not trust this organization's decision making process.

Waived him and put him on the practice squad.

If I am a team that wants a developmental 3rd QB, there are similar or better available, like Keith Wenning and Garrett Gilbert.

Keeping Clutts in favor of Ryan Williams, LaRon Byrd and Jamar Newsome is certainly questionable. Keeping Dustin Vaughan though was not, in my opinion. From my viewpoint he was the best rookie QB the Cowboys have picked up since Tony Romo. Granted, he will need developing, but I think he was absolutely worthy of keeping; especially given the worse case scenario with Romo's health.

Never heard of them...and what if Vaughn would have been picked up by another team? Vaughn at least has experience with the offense already...whoever those others are don't.

I think that lots of people are scared that he wouldn't get past waivers. I thought that too a few weeks ago, but the more I think about it the more I think he shouldn't have much of a problem clearing waivers. Not sure if we over-value/overestimate our players or if there are just a bunch more similar talents already available, but I think we should be able to "sneak" him on the practice squad. Then again, maybe the team is sure that someone else will snatch him up and are being cautious.

Regardless, I still like the kid and am not unopposed to keeping him around right now.

All you guys comparing a rough rook to bygone memories of Johnny Unitas or Bart Star...should come back a little. Not the only job of a fan is to compare to wizards of our past.

This kid is a rough, but talented quarterback. He is young, and very trainable. He is worth keeping around, at this stage of Tony Romo's career. He'll prove out within three seasons, when Weeden is no longer a consideration. That alone is worth the journey and time spent.

A franchise doesn't get trade in values for franchise quarterbacks, coming and a going...
