Very odd quote from Weeden

Who cares. He's weird. He didn't even warm up when Romo got hurt.

If he goes 4-4 or better he can say anything he wants.

That was weird, too.

I don't think I've ever seen a QB not warm up before going into a game. He just sat there like he needed Garrett to go over and call on him.

"Oh, me? I get to play? Awesome, coach!"

LOL it was hilarious. It's like he was trying not to get noticed and get called on like a kid in school slumping in his desk lol

He's an odd ginger but he's our hope right now

I would give a pretty penny to know what the coaches privately think of Weeden.

So it's not about winning these games, it's about looking good enough for the other teams to sign you next offseason?

I'm not defending what he said. I'm saying that professional football is a business. You can't blame players from approaching it as a business. All players do that. But, at the same time, you can't go around talking outloud about the business aspects because it upsets fans who look at it from a sporting perspective. He's correct in what he said, but he shouldn't have said it.

Agreed. It's about the money, and they have to think of themselves a lot in that business. No doubt.

But when the lights and microphones show up, you do NOT say that. You talk about beating the Falcons and your role in that, not your future in the NFL after this season.

That's fine to think, but you don't say that. He should be talking about the here and now. It shouldn't be about a big contract and starting position for another team next year, at least not as a public statement.

I've literally never heard a player say something like that in September when he's basically been handed the offense for two months.

He did talk about the here and now as well - he did planty of that in his interview.

He never mentioned big contract that i heard.

he sais he's auditioning for 32 teams - that includes the cowboys. If his contract is up and he doesnt play at all this year its harder to get real good opportunities.

He's excited for the chance to play and show that he can play well - which either gets him resigned by the cowboys or if not - it should get him an opportunity to play somewhere else.

Yesterday, during the media hour at Valley Ranch, Brandon Weeden made the comment:

(paraphrasing) "I'm going to be auditioning for 32 teams out there. I hope to be back here, I love it here, but I know that's the reality of this business."

This is an extremely odd time to make a statement like that. That's a PRESEASON comment that you hear from bubble guys and undrafted rookies, not regular season backup quarterbacks starting games in September.

Weeden is the designated starting quarterback on a 2-0 team with Super Bowl aspirations heading into an eight-week stretch without Tony Romo. He's the guy. He has a great opportunity to contribute to the Cowboys, and his mind is on putting up some good tape for other clubs to see?

When I heard that, I was really glad they went out and signed Matt Cassel. That quote was just strange.

Good bust your arse Weeden Go 8-0?impress those other teams. Let me explain my thoughts we are drafting a QB next year if Will is as good as i think he is our draft pick should be our back up next year. Murray busted his arse for us and it worked out great for all parties involved. Minus the first two games for Murray tho year but that's not our problem. Weeden needs to be Cinderella he can turn back into the pumpkin next year with a new contract for a new team lol

I agree that he didn't HAVE to say that, but since he did, what is the big deal? What's the downside to what he said?

Why not?

What are the possible negative consequences of his statement?

I would hate everything I said to be scrutinized the way these players are. Weeden did not say anything wrong, he wants to be in Dallas and said as much. Fact is he is not in a normal situation he is a 30 plus year old QB and what he does this year will determine if he has a future with the Cowboys or the NFL in general. He knows this and understands he has to produce.

I dont get why you think this is a odd statement? This is exactly what he should be thinking. The better he performs the better the contract he gets from somebody next year. I mean look at what Matt Flynn got for 1.5 good games playing for the Packers. he could go from not being in the league next year to signing a contract with $20 million guaranteed.

That is strange that an NFL player wants to be starter

So, it's not about beating the Falcons, it's about making a statement to New Orleans that if Brees can't go next year, Weeden is interested.

Sunday isn't about this year. It's about NEXT year. Cool.

Weeden would rather throw up a 110 QB rating and lose, then put up a 75 rating, and win.

Even if he thinks that, he shouldn't say that.
