Very odd quote from Weeden

So, it's not about beating the Falcons, it's about making a statement to New Orleans that if Brees can't go next year, Weeden is interested.

Sunday isn't about this year. It's about NEXT year. Cool.

Weeden would rather throw up a 110 QB rating and lose, then put up a 75 rating, and win.

Even if he thinks that, he shouldn't say that.

I think thats your strange twist on his words

First of all. This " myth" that he didn't warm up has gotten carried too far. It's already been reported by people there on the sideline, that he did indeed start throwing the ball before he went in.
Second. I never have a problem with people saying what is on their mind. He's just being honest. And it's not going to hurt the team in anyway. These guys are all in that locker room together. I guarantee he's had this very conversation with some of them. And probably members of the coaching staff as well. The fact is. These statements players make. Bother the fans a heck of a lot more then it bothers their team mates.

He doesn't think that, you do.

Putting up a 110 rating is more likely to lead to a win as opposed to a 75. So if he wants to put up a 110 rating I have no problem with that. Even if the motivation is more selfish in that he's thinking about the future. A 110 gives us a better chance.

Just extrapolating his thoughts.

Does he see game more as an audition, or a chance to go 3-0?

Again,

What's the downside? Either way his motivation is to paly the best he can. Is your only problem that he somehow offended you as a fan?

He doesn't have a contract here next year and I'm sure he would like a chance to start somewhere again
Not sure I would want a backup QB who didn't aspire to be a starter

Anyone wanna bet, Jerry will sign him to a 5yr $25mill contract now?

Weeden never said that

“I mean, it’s a big year,” Weeden said. “I’m not trying to sugarcoat that. I’ve got to go play well. I want to keep continuing to play in this league and in order to do that you’ve got to play well. I’m auditioning essentially for 32 teams next year but hopefully I can come back here. I love it here.”

Simple. He has an 8-week chance to show the Cowboys, and anyone else in the league, what he can do. At the end of this year, he hopes he did well enough to get re-signed with Dallas or get picked up by another team.

Very healthy view, I think.

The man has no contract next year so he is auditioning for ALL 32 TEAMS. What about this is not correct? To read into someone's motivation is folly.

But he isn't trying to make a team. He's on a team. And he's got eight weeks to "Steve Beuerlein" his way into Cowboys lore. THAT should be what he's thinking.

He basically said, "I hope I don't suck too bad that I can't get another job somewhere next year."

He meant he's auditioning to be a starter for someone. He wants to start and he's getting another chance to prove it.

People read way too much into stuff, I'm telling you.

Why can't it be both?

I think it is, if he is not helping the team win Cowboys will go to Cassel. Of course in order to win Weeden has to play good ball, he can't be turning it over or having the offense constantly stalling out. We have to move the ball and put points on the board.

I'm pretty sure trying to playing well is mutually exclusive to trying to win, some "fans" just need something, anything to be upset over and complain about.
