Very odd quote from Weeden

Just extrapolating his thoughts.

Does he see game more as an audition, or a chance to go 3-0?

Stop. Just stop. For Weeden yes it is an audition, and his career is on the line. He knows that. I have a nephew that is playing for the AZ Wildcats now, and his dream is to make it to the NFL(49ers he hopes. Barf. But he would be happy to even be on the Browns). The NFL is a hard goal to achieve. Even making a practice squad says you made it. Out of the millions of high school football players this year, how many do you think will become NFL starters?

Weeden knows what he is facing. This is his time to shine or come crashing to the earth. I know it. He knows it. The Cowboys know it. Surprised you don't know it too. I'm not upset at all that he is speaking honestly, because what he is saying is true.

He took the quote out of context and put a very ESPN like twist on

It's a pride thing sure he has a cushy gig here in Dallas but every time his name is brought it is immediately brought up that he was a bust 1st round pick.. I'm sure he doesn't want to go down busting in both baseball and football

I would give a pretty penny to know what the coaches privately think of Weeden.

They think highly enough of him to not carry a 3rd qb going into a championship contending season with a qb who has a weak back while never really holding a competition for the backup role.

But he isn't trying to make a team. He's on a team. And he's got eight weeks to "Steve Beuerlein" his way into Cowboys lore. THAT should be what he's thinking.

He basically said, "I hope I don't suck too bad that I can't get another job somewhere next year."

I hear ya E but in his mind it's either make a million dollars over the next couple years or head to Home Depot for 40K a year. He will never be confused with General Patton when it comes to the confidence meter - he's hoping for the best and expecting....well you know.

So, it's not about beating the Falcons, it's about making a statement to New Orleans that if Brees can't go next year, Weeden is interested.

Sunday isn't about this year. It's about NEXT year. Cool.

Weeden would rather throw up a 110 QB rating and lose, then put up a 75 rating, and win.

Even if he thinks that, he shouldn't say that.

You been watching this lately? :D

Yesterday, during the media hour at Valley Ranch, Brandon Weeden made the comment:

(paraphrasing) "I'm going to be auditioning for 32 teams out there. I hope to be back here, I love it here, but I know that's the reality of this business."

This is an extremely odd time to make a statement like that. That's a PRESEASON comment that you hear from bubble guys and undrafted rookies, not regular season backup quarterbacks starting games in September.

Weeden is the designated starting quarterback on a 2-0 team with Super Bowl aspirations heading into an eight-week stretch without Tony Romo. He's the guy. He has a great opportunity to contribute to the Cowboys, and his mind is on putting up some good tape for other clubs to see?

When I heard that, I was really glad they went out and signed Matt Cassel. That quote was just strange.

I wood venture to say that in a lockerroom with many millionaires who can barely string a sentence together and who were mostly raised on ramen, froot loops, Colt .45 and wear purple business suits and caps turned backwards that yeth, you will hear strange things. That's dope from FB-town, home of great mens and womans.
(If anybody insults my post do not listen to him because he hate me.)

I see it as he has the mindset of a starter. Maybe he can be our Steve Buerline? If he thinks he's better than a back up and Romo's not going anywhere I take no issue with it. I wouldn't have said it though so I agree with the OP in that sense.

I think he's saying this is his chance to earn back a starting spot somewhere in the league.

Regardless of what is said I'm betting he gives it all he has Sunday . That's really all we should care about . That and the results

So it's not about winning these games, it's about looking good enough for the other teams to sign you next offseason?

Much ado about nothing. He'll look good by winning these games!

Just win baby! And everything will work itself out.

LOL. Even if he is only concerned about looking good........................... IF HE LOOKS GOOD WE WILL WIN GAMES.

I fail to see the issue here.

Odd? Yes, but at least we know he's out there giving it 100

Only said because we just traded for a fairly proven backup in Cassell.
