This is the same lawyer who said last month, "we look forward to the opportunity to being able to walk inside this courtroom saying to the world that Michael Vick is innocent."

So much for Vick wanting "to clear his good name."

He also said at that time that he wanted to read a statement from Mike, that was "in Mike's own words" and the statement went on to say how he (Mike) wished he could be at "spring training" with his teammates.

I thought that was humorous.

OK...so is it offically acceptable at this point to say Vick is scum...or must we wait til next week?

Of course I'm sure the apologists will be here shortly saying he's not really guilty of anything...just accepting a plea to move past all of this.

If there are no gambling charges in the plea ill bet he plays again. You guys act like he killed somebody.

I bet part of the plea was to save his career. I would not be suprised if they swept any gambling charges under the rug.

It appears that he got 36 months with the possibility of only 18.

This is probably just a move by Vick to move past all of this, and get on with his football career. If the feds really had him, they wouldn't have let it plead out. Vick will plead, let this all blow over, and be playing again before you know it.
Was that good enough, JR?

I don't think having a minority viewpoint necessitates therapy. It would be a bit of a mess if we all agreed.

well when you keep on with your viewpoint, angry at the world for putting you in the minority on something, you need some help. fuzz just won't realize how important animals are to a LOT of people.

people drive laws and our society around us.

hence, we care about dogs and will not tolerate someone mistreating them no matter how much he things they're the same as a TV.

It would appear that they feds DID HAVE HIM.

A plea deal was offered, is that standard practice? Are plea deals always offered no matter what?(I wouldnt think so but dont know)

I think that because Vick is NOT the biggest fish in the (illegal dogfighting) pond that they offered a plea. deal He may be the biggest fish in HIS (illegal dogfighting) pond... but that wasnt enough for feds to nail him to the wall.

I think this is not quite true. We can't torture animals that we like.

Stupid animals that we use for food? We can brutalize the hell out of them. Cuz they taste so nice...

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/law/08/20/vick/index.html

Vick will plead guilty to felony conspiracy next Monday, defense attorney Lawrence Woodward told the Virginian-Pilot, of Norfolk, Virginia.

The newspaper reports that the plea will help Vick avoid additional federal charges.

"Mike's accepting full responsibility," Woodward told the newspaper. "He's going to do everything he can personally and professionally to make this situation right."

Federal prosecutors had offered a deal recommending an 18- to 36-month prison sentence. Vick's attorneys were trying to reduce that to less than a year, two sources told CNN on Monday.

My only comment:

I'm glad it'll be over soon, so I'll no longer have to tolerate anymore Vick pissing matches. And w/the season upon us, I can focus on more football threads.

Why is it so difficult for you to accept that most people feel it is unacceptable to treat these dogs in this manner? Clearly, that's how America, by and large feels. We are a democratic nation. The nation has clearly spoken in how it feels. I guess I just don't understand it Fuzzy.

Protest, Progress, and Product Tests:
A Short History of Animal Tests

Millions of animals suffer and die each year in the testing of cosmetic, personal care, and household products. Companies poison them to death. They shave the animals' skin and expose it to corrosive substances. They place powerful chemicals in animals' eyes. All of this is done just for a "new and improved" cologne, dish-washing detergent, or toothpaste.

While thousands of animals are killed every year in the United States in product tests, there is no law that requires these tests to be done. Many large and small companies have announced moratoriums or an outright end to product tests. However, there are still a few companies that refuse to end the practice. This is surprising because most scientists have come to the conclusion that animal testing is totally inadequate for protecting humans from harmful products.
