I don't think PETA has as much clout as most people think they do.

If he shows contrition, most fans will give him another chance. There have been a lot worse guys play football after committing crimes.

1) To this point, all he's done is pay lip service to the notion of "contrition", clearly, the judge wasn't buying his self-serving crapola... at this point, anybody who does is begging Vick to give him more of the same-- "thank you sir, may I have another"...

2) I don't presume to speak for most fans, but I'll never give that piece of garbage anything but my utter contempt... I reject your contention that most of us will be willing to forgive and forget...

Has anyone mentioned the time he has already served since voluntarily checking into the county jail 2-3 months ago. Doesn't that take the possibility of 19ish months down to 16-17 with good behavior

He entered jail on November 19th, which means more like 3 weeks ago, not 2-3 months ago...

I guess time flies when you're having fun...

Vick aint gonna serve the whole time he was given though. he will be out in about 18 months book it.

This presumes that he'll be a good boy in jail... I'm bettin' he flunks a drug test or two or three, and winds up doing the full stretch...

Then I'm betting that Pep is right, and Goodell will slap at least a one year suspension on him, just as he suspended Tank Johnson for 8 games after he got out of jail...

Dont think hes gonna play till 2009 maybe, boy that sucks man. i was a big fan of vicks.

Oh, you like crappy quarterback play, do you?? LOL...

I would not count on it. When the "fat Alki Smith with an arm" in Oakland bombs out you just know that too old Al will give the biggest outlaw in the NFL a call.

Al will be dead by then... :D

Vick KNEW it was illegal and KNEW it was wrong ethically and every other way. And he still did it for years. Frankly, he got off easy.

Then you need to redefine the word...

Man, he's WAAAAAAY beyond just "stupid"... he's sadistic, and sociopathic, and generally a piece of garbage...

That's what happens to you when you flunk a drug test when you're awaiting sentencing... judges tend to take a VERY dim view of that sort of thing... that judge is my hero... now I can only hope that the state judge who tries him will be even harder on that LOSER...

MY definition of a thug is quite clear. Mike Vick is not a thug in my eyes. You have your definition and I have mine. "he's sadistic, and sociopathic, and generally a piece of garbage" :lmao: Talk about exaggeration. Many people in the country have committed far worse crimes and have gotten less time or even pardons. The guy committed a crime and he deserves jail time. I just think they gave him way too much.

Congratulations on having a fine hero!

Seems like post-padding. There's a multi-quote button for a reason.

Mick, the judge gave Vick a stiffer sentence than was anticipated precisely because he (the judge) was convinced that Vick was NOT "contrite"...

Well, that's just IGNORANT...

You're arguing that because Vick bred those dogs to "kill themselves", that makes it acceptable for him to facilitate such killing??

Hey, Marines are trained to kill too, how 'bout we open a series of Colosseums across the country, and have them fight each other to the death?? You know, a REAL "American Gladiators"... think of the pay per view possibilities!!! We can all go online to issue a thumbs up or thumbs down...

Cry me a river for poor, persecuted Michael Vick... whatever happens to him in prison, he deserves...

OK, if you're ever killed, I sure do hope I get to serve on the jury... I'll hold out for justifiable homicide...

We're not talking about A dog's life here, we're talking about dozens of dogs' lives... we're talking about serial sadism here...

Again I'll repeat my theory that those who defend Michael Vick tend to be those who have attended, and enjoyed, dog fights...

Silverbear, the word Hate is a very strong word and I do not use it lightly when describing how I feel about someone.

I tend to save my hatred for Pedphiles, Rapists, Murders (the human variety) etc etc, non of which Michael Vick is.

Justice is being served in this case. Vick has lost one of the most important things you can have, his good name.

I really don't see what the big issue is and why such vitriol is being thrown the guys way?

Sometimes the creature known as the American can get their panties twisted over some of the most trivial things :p: .

I don't know if he is sadistic and a sociopath, as I am not a Psychologist but I think he is guilty of being a loser and failing to grasp just how priveldged he was.

I really think this time is prison is going to humble him and fully expect him to get rid of all the losers and hangers-on like the two idiots that rolled over on him and his father, yes I said it, his father.

Thats why I said "if" he shows contrition. Prison tends to have that effect on people.

Like I said, people have played football and other sports after committing more heinous crimes.

I don't think the sentence is excessive. In fact, it seems perfect to me. Anything more would be excessive. The NFL suspending Vick afterwards would be excessive. I also find that some people here don't value animals lives. The guy tortured animals -- got his jollies that way. I read they would electrocute animals and other such niceties when they were killing off the non-performers. This isn't just one animal we are talking about; this is many. Why would two years be too much to a mass murderer of animals? :) We aren't talking about 15 to 20, or life, or death penalty; we're talking about a measly two years. You guys who say there are people who get less time for murdering people are crazy. Even if that's true, something wrong doesn't make another wrong right. Besides, :p I'm from Texas and we don't have a reputation for f'ing around with sentences.

Vick is currently on NFL suspension and I don't believe that suspension will automatically be lifted whenever Vick gets released from the prison. I think that suspension will remain until Vick has satisfied whatever requirements set in place by the Commish.

If I am not mistaken, I believe it was stated that the Commish was waiting for the Federal Government to sentence him before he made his decision.

Vick may one day return to the NFL but I do think his days as a QB are over. Even at that I would say the odds are he never plays in the NFL again.

BTW, there are some internet spammers who got harsher sentences than Vick. Not that anyone is complaining.

I disagree.

I think if he is given a chance, I think it will be in the capacity of of a backup QB.

If Drew Bledsoe and Vinny Testeverde are still fielding phone calls (one is actually playing), there is no reason Michael Vick couldn't come back, get back into NFL shape and contribute in a backup roll.

And we all know, Backups play in this league.

I have a hard time coming up with teams that would take a chance on him even if it is at another position.

Now, he won't have the legs that he used to have, even though he will still probably be able to run decent 40.

But you also have to think that his body would not have taken the pounding it would have had he still been playing right now.

This is assuming that the guy wants to even play football anymore.

I think he will still be in the public eye even if he doesn't play ball anymore. Maybe some reality TV show or wrestling.

Drew Bledsoe and Vinny Testeverde could at least throw the ball and be accurate with the Ball. They were still working on Vick before he got into trouble. The guy is a great athlete but he is not much of a QB and with this time away from the game his skills at QB are not going to all of a sudden get better. I could see him return as a slash type player but I think he was barely a QB before all of this came down.
