If he goes top 5 and he isn't Ed Reed in a few years then someone reached.

Safeties should never go that high and Eric Berry doesn't look like a slam dunk superstar to me.

Super talented safeties will go high in today's pass happy NFL. A guy who can Both blow up Brandon Jacobs at a dead stop and snag an interception on Randy Moss has some value in today's league.

If Berry can do both then he's worth a top 5 pic.

We're not getting him but if Thomas can cover and raise our Int. totals then he's worth #27.

Although I still want the best O-lineman at #27 since the draft is deep at Safety.

It's not total B/S. Look at the caliber of talent in the SEC. Look at his stats. Look at his awards. Look at his body of work and complete skill sets. He is as close to Ed Reed as anyone that has come out in a long time. He will test even better then Sean Taylor did and put up stats that you can't argue with.
Nah, he would dispute it.

I like Mays hitting ability guy can lay the wood but his ability in coverage I do have some question marks on him. He seems to be late getting to the ball and gets turned around too often

Mays will most likely struggle in coverage.

From what I have seen from him at USC I agree. I like his size and his speed and maybe under a good coaching staff he can become a better coverage man but I'm just not as sold on him as I am with Earl Thomas and Allen.

Same. Thomas/Allen would be the ideal type of safety for us to add to the roster. We need that ballhawk type to create more havoc.

Even if he turns out to be Darren Woodson good is he worth that high of a pick and top 3 money?

I just don't see the value with Berry.

He has to eventually be one of the 2 best safeties in the game to validate picking a Safety that high.

I would trade out before I ever gave any rookie safety that much money.

+1. Great college player, big risk at the top of the NFL draft.

I agree I also like Eric Berry from Tenn.

The anti-Taylor Mays stuff is a bit over the top and being fueled by the "he's a Roy Williams clone" hysteria.

Exactly. Everyone is ****ting their pants over taking any safety over 200 lbs now because of Roy. Too many people letting their fear of Roy neuter them.

Roy has nothing to do with my feelings, watching Mays is what has scared me. He can put on big hits but the guy gets beat too easy and gets turned around. This past season did nothing to help him out as he was burned way too often.

It's not so much RW as the fact that the trend league-wide has been away from big safeties for several years now.

Doesn't Mays have 4 picks in his career?

Anyone who watched Taylor Mays play this season will rate him no higher than a 4th round pick.

I literally saw a game where USC got better when he went out with an injury.

His back up came in and made a couple plays right away after they had torched him a couple plays in a row before he left the field.

He has prototypical size and speed but he doesn't have quickness or change of direction and doesn't make plays on the ball unless it is just a straight shot play where his speed shows up.

Of all the players I watched play football this year he was the most disappointing.

Or it could be they actually watch football.

Taylor Mays had 1 INT and 3 passes broken up on the YEAR.
That's ridiculously bad coverage skill metrics for anyone.

Compare that to Earl Thomas who is also ranked 15-30 R1 and Thomas had 8 INTs and 9 passes broken up THIS YEAR.

I think it's big safeties who make no plays in coverage.

Not strictly a size thing.

Mays' coverage skills are debatable. That is why he will fall some. Someone will still take a chance on him and they may do well with him. He has bust or boom written all over him.

You better believe he is just that.

Does Mike Mayock realize Eric Berry hits like Ronnie Lott and runs and covers like a CB. Berry will hurt you. Berry can line up at CB and cover you, and that includes the slot. He's a little stiff, but he can cover you out there. He's a sure tackler. The guy is a turn-over machine. Monty Kiffen didn't get the production, in terms of turnovers, that John Chavis got out of him.

If he stays healthy, he's a Hall of Fame player.

Berry will be the highest player taken since Peyton Manning out of Tennessee.

The guy from Nebraska and Berry are the two safest players in this entire draft, imo.

I'll flat out say it. I think Berry is the best player in this draft.

Having said that, he's way out of reach, and that guy from Texas looks good to me, but putting him ahead of Berry...

I'll take Berry and let's go...

Thats pretty good for a guy who has never put on an NFL uniform:rolleyes:.

He can probably play in a zone scheme where he does a lot of cover 2.

It is troubling that he doesn't make plays on the ball for even that scheme but that's his best fit. Look for a Tampa 2 team to grab him early round 3. I do not think he goes before then.

For us he is an awful fit. We ask our safeties to man cover.

If you youtube Taylor Mays you'll find a myriad of highlights but they will shock you in there lack of plays on the ball. He has a ton of good hits but many times the WRs hang onto long gains. Short story there is he was beaten... many times by non-NFL caliber WRs.

I hope Washington or Philly draft him.

I'm not sure how they are debatable.

Love to hear the positives if anyone has any.

no way man, he's for sure going in the 1st round, early 2nd. Someone will fall in love with his measurements, but I'm with you wouldn't touch him before the 5th.
