Video released of De'Andre Johnson allegedly punching woman

The Florida State Attorney's Office has released security video from Yianni's bar in Tallahassee, Fla., that allegedly shows FSU freshman quarterback De'Andre Johnson striking a female at the bar.

Johnson, who is one of several contenders to replace Jameis Winston as the Seminoles' starting quarterback, has been suspended indefinitely by the school. He turned himself into police last week on a reduced charge of misdemeanor battery.

Doesn't matter to.me how he could've responded, she should've kept her hands to herself. Let's not hold him to a standard, she herself couldn't have uphold. They both should be punished, imo.

It should matter to you.

If it's open season that a man reacts as if she were a man. That's sad.

It doesn't matter to me, because I'm not crazy enough to hit a man unprovoked and think he won't hit me back. My crazy died years ago.

Women should NOT put their hands on men unprovoked and then expect every man to walk away, just because she's a woman She tried to punch him twice. She tried to knee him in the groin. All in an enclosed place. She was rude. And folks are mad at him, because he one-pieced her.

Yes, reasonable minds suggest he should've walked away and I wouldn't disagree. But I also think it's reasonable to suggest that she shouldn't have tried to punch him and knee him, as well.

They both should apologize and punished equally. If she's in school, she should get suspended for a time, as well. She should be charged with assault, as well.

Talk about unnecessary force, he got what he deserves. :)

He should've just physically restrained her(if she's swinging at him), I mean he literally picked the worse course of action in that situation. Though he is still a little boy, and his actions proves that. No man in their right mind would way lay someone that physically isn't even threatening. Meaning a child, or a woman, unless they felt their life was at stake for some reason. Which wasn't the case in the video.

Sure the woman was completely in the wrong, but that doesn't give him the right to do what he did, which was completely barbaric behavior. Dude has a lot of growing up to do.

I'm pretty sure I agree with Woodrow here. I mean, it's understood that physical violence is unacceptable, in whatever form, in today's society. However, the reality is that people are not perfect and at some point, you are going to be faced with a situation where you have no control. That might be because you are at a point where you can not be rational or it may be because circumstances are simply beyond your control. It's unreasonable to expect that people will never find themselves in this situation in their lifetimes. Punishment is the price you pay for losing control. You hope that the system protects you when you have no ability to control a given situation and are forced to resort to physical violence but it doesn't always to that. However, you simply can not expect people, men or women, to be subjected to situations like we see here and not react. Is it wrong? Of course it's wrong but it's also predictable. The reaction we see here is not A-typical. In fact, I'd imagine that we would probably see a very similar reaction from just about anybody who might find themselves in a similar circumstance. Yes the player should be punished but that women should also be punished and to a similar degree IMO. Causation here is, at least in part, due to the fact that society has viewed these types of interactions the way we traditionally have. We simply accept that it's the mans fault and proceed accordingly. This creates an environmental atmosphere in which we actually see too many women provoking behavior which is not only unsafe but, I believe designed to initiate responses from males with the intent to take full advantage. This is not only dangerous but unfair. I believe consideration should be given to these types of designed attacks. The longer it goes unchecked, the more dangerous it becomes. I agree with Woody.

She was the initial aggressor. She should be charged too.

looked to me like he grabbed her arm first, which brought it to a physical encounter. None the less, I agree they both should be charged.

I'm torn on the hitting a woman back thing though. On one hand, especially in these days where woman strive for full equality, they can't have it both ways where they're allowed to strike a man w/o retaliation. However, I could not see myself striking a woman back in self defense if she were to hit me first. Thankfully, I'll probably never find myself in that situation.

Looked to me that there was extra jostling going on, because of the two women trying to post up at the bar vs moving out of the way after they got their drinks. And so he may have grabbed/touched her, but that kinda stuff happens in that environment. She overreacted.

As for men hitting women. To be clear, I'm not really for men hitting women. He should've walked away once the situation escalated. No question. That said, rational thinking goes out of the window sometimes and you never think about consequences in those situations. I know a lot of men who walk away. I also know a lot of WOMEN who will do whatever it takes to escalate it so that the man almost has no choice. Obviously that wasn't the case here, but women can't cry for equal rights, escalate a situation to where it's physical and then get mad when they get popped too hard in response. Girlfriend can go have several seats.

Umm...no? Dude is entirely to blame for this incident. He initiated the confrontation by attempting to muscle his way to the bar and then escalated the situation by grabbing her arm when she protested.

I have been in that situation. I was at a small club with a band playing, I was close to the front and someone behind shoved and poured(I thought spilled) a beer on me. Mind you the music was quasi hard-core/punk/Metal. So finally I feel hitting and grabbing on me, I spin around and a girl, maybe a couple of years or so younger than me, I think 21ish is looking to hit me with her fists up. I immediately get into a karate stance to bear the weight forward but I drop my arms to my side, she kicks me hits me in the upper thigh, obviously she was aiming in the center. I later got to ask her "why" and she said she wanted to be with her friends up at the front and I was in the way. Probably she left to get a beer and came back, drunk of course. I told her next time she should ask because I would have let her in.

Mind you I am not a big person I probably weighed less than 140lb at the time, but she was very petite definitely less than 100lbs and with skull and cross bones tattoos on the back of both her hands, she was hella cute too, but one of those punks that thought you have to be an ******* to be "real" I'm sure.

I know I'm going to sound like the old guy, but has anyone mentioned the fact that the bar in question had no business serving alcohol to a 19 year old like DJ in the first place?

I was feeling sympathetic to Deandre before watching the video because I read that she called him racial slurs and tried attacked him multiple times for no reason. After watching the video, it looks to me like Deandre instigated the whole thing. I don't know why he was trying to muscle his way in front of the line so aggressively. You could even see him using the bar to pull himself in. She could obviously feel someone applying a lot of force to her back area, which is what prompted her to turn around angrily. We don't know how much force was applied. Maybe it was painful enough to put her in defense mode and turn around with her hands up in fight mode. Then he just looks her dead in the face and aggressively grabs her arm. She might have been fearing for her safety at this point. She did take the first swing but I would say Deandre initiated the physical part of the altercation. Then he decked her immediately after she took the first swing. It wasn't like he let her get out her aggression and then took force when she wouldn't stop. He didn't even flinch. He went in full-force immediately when he saw her throwing a punch. He was in fight mode from the beginning if you ask me.

I think that the focus here might be off. If I am mistaken, then I am mistaken but the focus here should be the immediate. The rest is noise or perhaps, discussion to be had after the fact, is a better way to put it. In the moment, the chances of the situation rapidly going south are too great. In the moment, things happen too fast. It's really only a matter of time before something really bad happens. You can not simply look at it from the perspective of who's at fault. You have to look at this from the stand point of how do you prevent it. We see this type of behavior more and more and it is seriously a matter of not "if" but "when" we see something go horribly wrong as an outcome. Sure, we can have all the media outrage and the NFL can fine and do all the rest, after the fact, but it won't help the person who is on the wrong end of that situation and because their is money involved, it won't stop the practice. It will only encourage it IMO.

That is a possibility. We don't know if he was going to order just a soda or not. I would think the cops are looking into the bar as well.

I'm wondering who is paying the attorney representing Johnson. Jose Baez is the lawyer who represented Casey Anthony.
