because of the bolded part...

Yeah, Peterson would have take a cut in pay to be a Cowboy. He knows the Vikings are not going to Super Bowl, so Dallas would a much better chance for a ring. Question is -how much money would Peterson give up to be a Cowboy?

We cant afford him? I am not a cap guy. And I learn most of what I do know about the cap and players in the draft by visiting forums like this... I just don't have the time. Work, family BBQ contests!

I've had time this year because i am working from home. No commute and I am on my own connection,

But from what I understand, we could easily get the 9 10 million to pay AP, if it comes to that.

And if it does, how do you say no? AP , with Romo and Witten for the next 2 ..3 years on a super bowl run. After Romo leaves..... there probably isnt going to be any Super Bowl run anytime soon, The time is Now......

I will admit. I am a little obsessed about this opportunity with AP.

The stars seem to be aligning for a chance at AP. I dont think a situation like this presents itself very often.

And for a franchise trying to break through, to break the culture of losing for 20 years....

Its going to take a little extra ummph...

I could see that. They could even keep him up until the final cuts of the pre-season. They will only have a $2.4 million dead money cap hit if they cut him this season. It doesn't matter if it is today or the day before the season starts. If they can't trade him might as well hang on to him for as long as possible.

If he gets hurt during any workouts or camp they would have to pay him the entire 13m. If they lock him out they will probably get sued. If they are going to cut him they should do it soon. They don't want to gain the reputation as being spiteful with a new stadium coming and better days ahead.

He wouldn't just have to take a significant pay cut. Like he would have to take a paycut in half. Paying him $9m and giving up a draft pick isn't much better than paying $12m and giving up a draft pick.

This.

Just like the Steve McNair situation from several years ago. Tennessee tried to freeze him out and he forced them to make a decision. But, unlike the Vikings, the Titans were able to get draft picks for McNair. I think teams are waiting this bad situation out, hoping Peterson will force Minnesota's hand and they'll get him for no draft compensation.

If they would have stood behind him the entire time then I would have supported them fully. They tried to not pay him, lost in court, and all but condemned him.

He's done there and everyone knows it.

Phil Savage said on Sirius NFL this afternoon that he thinks Peterson will be off the Vikes within the next two weeks.

Technically, I think you would be correct, but if Peterson comes out and publicly and clearly says "I want out!" I can't see a modern day NFL team forcing a player to stay. Not if Peterson is willing to be the bad guy to get out.

Every player can demand a trade than. What type of precedent is that? The only legitimate way that I could see is if his contraxt is about up and the team is trying to get some value knowing he won't sign. This is precluding franchise situations though.

Why would they back him? He made a four year old bleed. You can say that wasn't his intent but he must have seen the kids cuts.
Abusing kids is one of the worst things any one can do. The Vikings paid the price for it to, I don't think I could have backed him honestly.

I expect Dogra and Peterson to take it to the next level and come out publicly and explain their side of the story, stating clearly that "Adrian Peterson no longer wants to play for the Minnesota Vikings".

I think any team that obviously forces a player to stay after that looks pretty bad.

And desperate.

The problem with that logic is, once he has been reinstated, he has every right to work out at the Vikings head quarters. Once he makes a statement that public, they may be able to keep him from working out, thus there is no risk of injury which would guarantee his salary.

Another problem with your logic is, there is really nothing definitive to say Peterson doesn't want to play for the Vikings. I think first and foremost, Adrian Peterson wants to make $12.75 million next year, and his best chance at getting that is in Minnesota.

That's a great way to treat the best player in your franchise's history... hold him hostage and force him to play for your crappy team. Way to go Minnesota!

Peterson made a NFC Championship game and fumbled it away.

What are you talking about. The Vikings had 5 turnovers in the only championship game he played in (2009) and none of them were Peterson. Farve threw 2 picks and fumbled once, Percy Harvin Fumbled once, and Bernard Berrian lost a fumble. Peterson fumbled twice but both were recovered by the Vikings. In fact they scored on one drive after his fumble, and the other Brett Farve threw an interception in field goal range after they drove 45 yards.

All Peterson did that game was rush for 122 yards on 25 carries with 3 touchdowns and accounted for three of their four scores with zero turnovers. Yeah he fumbled that game away.

I don't really want to sign Peterson. But if you are going to try to discredit him to make yourself feel better about Murray, next time look at a box score and play-by-play and/or actually use facts.

I get that I am not criticizing their position at all. i don't judge other people on family matters either way. I'm talking about repudiating him and then trying to come back on it when it comes time to make a buck.

I expect to see this on my phone come June 1st.

"NFL News: Vikings release Adrian Peterson. Vikings save $13 million. It's rumored Dallas Cowboys and Peterson have a rumored mutual interest".

He won't be with the Vikings next year, but the media will for sure try to make it seem he comes here for as long as possible. Even if it's 99% certainty he's signing with another team, they will keep our name and his together for the views.

Peterson wasn't forced when he signed his contract.
