Vince Young said that he considered quitting football during training camp last summer because of the pressures.
"I really thought long and hard about it," Young told NFL.com. "There was so much going on with my family. It was crazy being an NFL quarterback. It wasn't fun anymore. All of the fun was out of it ... My teammates helped lift me out of it." Keith Bulluck confirms the prospect was real at the time, but we wouldn't take it too seriously. Young left Texas a year early and getting overwhelmed was a natural sign of his immaturity.

And this was BEFORE his horrendous 2007 season.

A 51% completion percentage will do that to you. And being second to last in QB rating too. He did better is his second year though- but still not as well as David Carr.

He contemplated retirement, then got his next check and decided he'd work through his problems.

Poor guy. It's not easy being a horrendous NFL QB.

Aikman probably should have retired after two seasons too...

26 games
4328 yards (166 YPG)
55.1% completion
20 TDs
36 INTs
6.25 YPA

He should have quit before things got worse. Give Young a break, QB is a tough position to learn, even more so when you didn't play in a pro style offense in college. The guy doesn't really have anyone to throw to. Give him some more time.

Yup, I mean he's gone through growing pains but has shown the potential. I mean did anyone expect him or any other qb coming into the NFL to look great after starting his first two years? This will be the season that he needs to show he's gonna be what was expected. Problem is he still doesn't have receivers. He has several that are decent but the best they have are maybe a Crayton caliber guy or two and some Hurd types.

I remember he was suspended for that pre-season game vs the Skins. I wonder what was going on.

I remember this thread... I liked it better when it was about Mike Vick!

at least Young is better than David Carr!

Vick and Young aren't much alike. Only similarity is they are good runners. Like opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to character. And Young had something like a 62% completion percentage in his second season..Don't think Vick ever got above 58% if even that high. He also played most of last season on a bad quad, not a good thing for a young qb who wasn't able to fall back on his legs when things weren't going right.

he should, he sucks.

Dude he pretty much singlehandedly took the team to the playoffs two years in a row and won the national championship game on his own too. There aren't a lot of QBs who are amazing right out of college, but Young certainly has had more success than most. His numbers might not be great, but he has found ways to get his offense down the field and win games.

On top of that, I don't know if I've ever seen so many INTs come from the ball bouncing off of or going through his WRs hands. Granted his TD/INT ratio is still too high, but a number of those INTs came off of good throws that were botched on the receiving end.

Actually, Albert Haynesworth took them to the playoffs. Glad to see you watch football.

Vince Young blows. Its that simple.

And they had no receivers to throw too. I think they are both pretty underrated passers. The bottom line is that they are winners. Look at the impact missing one player has had on Atlanta. The team has had absolutely no chance of winning the times that Vick has been injured or in jail.

The same goes for the Titans. They'd be a consistent 4-12 without Young. QB is obviously a key position for every team, but there are only a handful of teams that would be absolutely destroyed without their starting QB and the Falcons and Titans lead the pack.

If they get Young some receivers that team would be very tough to stop just because Young could make a lot happen.

Yeah Dread, last year it was less Vince than the D that took them. It's amazing how bad their defense was without Haynesworth and how dominant it was with him in the lineup. But his first season Vince seemed to will them to victory and makes plays to win. He's a pretty incredible leader and he was basically THE leader of the team as a rookie..that has to be rare in the NFL. I guess the willing to victory part could have helped last year too. Nobody hates to lose as bad as him, it rips him up. His teammates see that and don't want to let him down.

As for the td-int ratio..he had an amazing amount of would-be td passes that were dropped. If not for that he probably would have been close to a 1-1 ratio. Doing a lot of defending of him here, I'm a big believer in VY. That said he needs to make a lot of improvement. I think he'll show a big improvement in season 3, then after that he'll go on to have a Hall of Fame type career.

Haynesworth did not take them to the playoffs in '06 and he had a great '07 season but Young still got them down the field in close games even with terrible receivers.

Try to be a little more specific when you're making convoluted statements.
