You are right. Phillips cannot be held accountable for being what he is. If he tried to be something else, the players would see right through it.

Sadly, he's what everyone knew he would be from the minute he was hired and he hasn't disappointed.

Jones is the one to blame for any of his faults. He hired him, rendered him powerless from the first minute he had Garrett already installed and since has refused to allow him to simply run the team. The general point though is that we shouldn't have expected otherwise. It is Wade Phillips and Jerry Jones is doing exactly what should have been expected with that kind of hire.

Continuity is simply a buzzword, one that I don't think he was truly serious about. If he was, he would have extended him and kept him from lameduck status. If he was interested in what Phillips was developing, Jones also would have given him the help he wanted in Dan Reeves. Instead, Jones took Reeves as a threat and sabotaged the entire setup.

From the second he walked off the field in Philadelphia there were dozens of reasons why he wouldn't be fired. Mainly, I don't think Jones was interested in eating his salary after going into hock for the stadium. He also wasn't willing to give up his figurehead just yet. He's still sowing his head coach oats and won't give up on that special type of "continuity" until he's decided that he needs a new scapegoat.

I agree with all of this, but he still does need to do something. At least straighten out the defense. Its an awful situation.

and I dont underestimate the new stadium and all the hoopla jerry wants to have not having some role, albeit extremely samll.

With a real central figure at the top I am not sure how you do some of the crap jerry has with the stadium and involving the team. Not to mention the reality tv star on your practice squad.

Jerry has said three times now that jason garrett is in the family picture, so I imagine he is the next head coach, I hope he can do the thing that parcells did and just appease jerry and make him feel more involved than he really is.

Jimmy said that on the pregame show yesterday about the Commanders and needing someone who can keep snyder thinking he is involved while actually keeping him out of important decisions and the same applies here.

I would be far more concerned why the defense, like clockwork, gives up a touchdown in the final drive of the 4th quarter than what we do in the first drive of the game.

The D-line appeared gassed in my opinion. They used a tremendous amount of energy going after Cassel hard every play in the second half. I think they just got worn down.

a fan called in and made one comment about when miles austin ran across the goal line and held the ball out and dropped it,
thats total lack of focus
:bang2:

This about makes me want to spit.

Once ANY part of the ball crosses the LEADING EDGE of the goal line and the ball carrier has possession and his knee is not down, it's a touchdown.

Not 3/5ths.

Not one and three quarters.

ANY portion of the ball. Period.

:madden:

Feel free to jump on the man if he drops the ball before the ball crosses the goal line. Ream him out for allowing a pursuer to knock the ball out of his grasp before the ball crosses the goal line.

...but to criticize the man for taking care of the score first and having a split second of self-doubt after everyone who watched him knows that it was six points isn't 'low'. It's butt-ugly stupid.

INCREDIBLE!

You didn't answer my question, and I agree that Miles always does that........and that's not focus! get in the damn endzone. And he thought he fumbled it/dropped it before he got in the endzone. his reaction was pathetic.

They asked him about that during the game. He's not "admiring" himseld he's looking at the jumbotron to see how far back the defenders are. That way he doesn't have to look behind him.

I believe he moved the ball in his hand and it slipped out. I don't think it was a flip just dropped it.

On the nosey.

I'm always a bit puzzled by fans who pick on the Wade's of the world. Fact is, Wade is who he is. He wasn't going to say to Jerry "Hey, I'm not the guy you want. I won't get enough respect from the players" etc.

Wade is just being Wade. The problem is, Jerry decided to let Wade be Wade on our sidelines.

It's no different than any family owned, poorly run business...just on a huge scale.

Yeah, that's the thing about the 4th quarter. It comes at the end of the game. Both sides should be tired. Not every team gives up a TD drive in the final drive. Some teams have players who gut up and make a play.

Seriously when the other team gets the ball with 3 minutes or less in the game and down less than a TD, doesn't everyone in their gut resign themselves to the fact that they're going to drive right down the field for a TD to tie or win the game at this point?

For the first time since I've been a fan, after the Cowboys went ahead 20-13, I walked away from the TV...I couldn't handle the stress of knowing what was coming...

Wow, if that's true it's an incredibly smart thing to do.

Its been this way for awhile.

so far this year we have had a lead and had the other team backed up with 2nd and 20 and 3rd and 26. IN both situations they converted and then scored.

I think you win with your defense and always have. The offense is always bailing that group out. they have for awhile, that is why I am always dumbfounded when people run around talking about how romo put the defense in tough spots, now that is true, but if you look at the big picture its pretty easy to see, big plays from this offense led by romo for three years have bailed out poor defense.

Particularly poor defense in critical moments. There have been a handful of games since last december where the offense has struggled and we lost when the defense played well, and the media and fans have hung onto these games and moments like this is the standard and like that is what we usually see. When in fact it has been the opposite.

We started slow on Sunday because the OL blew the first two drives, Folk missed a FG, and then Crayton muffed a punt.

I think Wade knows that, but won't throw anyone under the bus.

why do you keep asking for Jerry to fix the problems?

anyone who wants this team to win, should want jerry to be in a different country from monday to saturday. He shouldnt have any say in what goes on in the film room, the class room or the practice field.

Why only Monday to Saturday?

There goes that accountability word again... albeit in a different expression of the same.

I get the whole "he won't trash his players in public" slant but do we truly believe they're being made accountable behind closed doors? Really? The play on the field doesn't show it.

I get what your saying. It made my stomach hurt watching it. But they also stopped KC cold in OT including the drive that started at the 49 yard line. That's the part of the game that mattered in the end.

ask any coach in any league why their team starts off slow and none of them
will have the answer.

if they knew the cause you can bet they would do something about it before hand.

however it makes such a great question because then the reporter and all the call in fans of radio can pretend they know more than guys who are getting paid to do what we would all love to do

one thing I do wonder about with Wade is whether he may be sticking too hard to old coaching methods and not trying something, anything, different, to fix some of their problems. He seems like a guy who doesn't have a whole lot of imagination/desperation.

Wade's still trying to figure out why his 33 year coaching career is still off to a slow start

Exactly. BP used to like to hear himself talk and he enjoys bs'n people. He was more engaging to the press but he rarely gave them anthing other than the obvious. Wade does the same but his style is different. Wades just a country boy playing possum. You would think all these geniuses would see that.

Wow. For a minute I thought I was the only one who was realizing this. Its laughable when you hear these guys on the radio decipher what Wade says in the press. When he say she doesn't know if Barber is healthy he's just playing possum like you said.

Just Fire Wade and give the keys to Garrett. Let Campo take over the D.
What ??

You think it is bad now, that is a recipe for disaster.

Campo should be collecting tickets at the gate, that's as close to the field as he should be allowed.

When he was the HC, I always said he was the luckiest fan in the world. How many of us would love to stand on the sidelines with our Cowboys polo on, mingle with the players, listen to what was going on on the headphones?

I would love to do that just one game, he got to for 3 seasons.

I'm sorry, some may like him but to me he is just pretending to be an NFL coach.
