Wade stays. Period.

I really cannot believe in Wade as a HC.

As Spock said to Kirk in STII "Commanding a starship is your first best destiny"
Wade is at his best as a DC.

This defense is terrific, and he built it. We will have more youth in the line up next year and I think we will be better off for it. This is becoming a top unit in the league, almost as dominant as Pittsburgh or Baltimore's, easily as good as NYG's or Minnesota's. The D is playing unconscious football right now and that is ALL Wade. OUTSTANDING JOB!

Relax.

We are still not even in the playoffs yet.

And why did it take so long for the doofus to take over the defense? He's been here for two years and now we are getting the dominant defense. They should have been much better long before now.

And any head coach who continues to put Cory Procter in the starting lineup isn't going to get any votes from me.

And don't forget the Giants were playing without Burress and Jacobs.

I would much rather give the defensive players more credit for playing 'smarter' recently. Plus Newman is back. Plus Spencer is now healthy. Plus James is playing out of his mind.

Every one is flying from the win, deservedly so after last week.
But we haven't accomplished a thing yet. The Giants came to Dallas minus players and more were hurt during the game.

While I do love the D the last few weeks I will wait until we make some play off noise before I back pedal my opinion of Phillips.

I'm with burmafrd on this one. He hasn't done diddley in my book. Yeah, our defense is great right now but the penalties, lack of organization and overall confusion remain. The talent won out last night. But we're probably still going to finish 10-6 which I believe (not sure yet) would leave us on the outside looking in. He needs to win these last two games AND a couple playoff games IMO to save his job. We shall see..........

Wade Phillips needs to win a Playoff Game before a decision is made about his status as Head Coach next year.

Our defense is playing pretty good but I really don't think they have been tested.

Fortunately, there are not many offenses that field the weapons that we do.

It's still time to withold judgement.

We haven't done anything, yet.

Yeah, Stewart needs to be fired.....

I say, hire a mean head coach and keep wade as defensive coordinator....we still have discipline problems with so many penalties

Do you remember the Saints game in '06? Do you remember how terrible this defense was then? And you're complaining that it took less than 1.5 seasons for Wade to turn this into one of the best defenses in the league?

IGS.

And I swear to god, how stupid do you have to be to keep repeating the "Keep Wade as DC" line? That's not directed at you, DCF (others in this thread).

Procter is a liability, but who can we plug in right now that's better? Is there a hotline that Wade can call to get another O-lineman off the street? Give JJ some credit for at least getting Holland. Not Wade's fault that Holland got hurt.

...and don't forget that we played without Romo against the Giants earlier in the season. Did they get an asterisk beside their W? Burress isn't a Giant anymore. Jacobs? I don't think he would have made a difference in this game if he would have played. Neither team could run the ball last night.

Newman is healthy for the first time this year, and can play man to man now. James has benefited from the schemes that Wade is employing.

Give the coach a bit of credit. All teams have weak links due to injury this time of year. The teams that overcome them will win.

The perfect scenario is Cowher as HC with Wade as DC, but that isn't going to happen.

I agree Wade will probably stay. There's certainly no rush now to promote Garrett.

Unfortunately we will just have to live with the mistakes and the little things that drive us crazy each week.

As long as the defense plays at a high level there is no way you can get rid of him.

Couldn't you just as easily say "Remember this defense from the first 10 games of 2006? It really wasn't that far to get them BACK to playing at the level they played at while beating the undefeated Colts."

I think you could.

Any judgement needs to be witheld until after the season. Going 4-1 over the last 5 is awesome. And honestly, it's amazing that we're playing this well despite being destroyed by injury.

But we haven't done anything yet.

The only reason to look at past games is because it's a predictor of future games. Let's say it's January of 2007. We're in a playoff game of some sort. What would you expect that defense to play like? Would it play like the first 10 games of 2006 or would it play like those last 6 games?

It's impossible to tell. The team that performs at the same level throughout a 19-20 game season is rare, or nonexistant. See our offense last year or the Patriots in the Super Bowl. The team absolutely could have rallied in the playoffs, and performed pretty well against Seattle in a game where Tony was bad and the offense put them in bad situations. So you never know. I'm not denying the job Wade has done, but it's not like he was taking over the 2008 Lions defense. That was a defense that had played very well for the majority of the previous season. Obviously the ability was there.

SP, there was a systematic flaw in what we were doing that was being repetitively exposed and BP/Zimmer could not fix it. I am inclined to believe we were going to pick up right where we left off if the same crew came back for 2007 and 2008.

Then don't look back at games at all. But if you do, you look at the ones that are most predictive.

That's not at issue in what's being discussed, here.

That's an arbitrary and pointless distinction.

Why not?

Again, the Defense has been pretty good but:
1) Seattle, Pittsgurgh and the 49ers are in the 20 somethings in Total Offense
2) We brought Wade Phillips here to fix the defense and win Playoff Games

I just don't think you can come out and emphatically say Wade Phillips should be off the hotseat and his job should be guranteed at this point.

He has this team in the right direction but if he doesn't win a Playoff Game, especially when we are seeing the demise of the Giants right before our eyes, I don't see how he can keep his job.
