Jones Indicates Phillips Will Be Back

[FONT=verdana, geneva]Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has not yet exercised the fourth-year option in Wade Phillips' contract, and has maintained he will not address Phillips' future until after the season.

But Friday's announcement that Paul Pasqualoni will replace the departing Todd Grantham as defensive line coach -- a suggestion made directly from Phillips to Jones on Thursday -- is the strongest indication yet that Phillips will be back for at least the 2010 season.

Jones agrees.

"I think it does," said Jones, who again endorsed the job Phillips has done this season, leading the Cowboys to their second division title in three years and their first playoff win since 1996. "I certainly am interested in building on what we've got going right now in a positive way. I think that it would clearly say -- if you sort through the circumstances of Paul's hiring -- it's on go here for Wade.

"But again, we haven't sat down and talked about it. And I do have to, every time we (the media) talk about it, remind us that for all practical purposes Wade is under contract."

By that, Jones means the fourth-year option is already stated in Phillips' three-year deal. Exercising it is a mere formality.

And whenever the season ends, it appears that indeed will be the case.

Personally, I thought Jerry Jones made his mind up after we beat the Eagles in the last Regular Season Game.

As Jerry Jones stated himself, the paper work has not been signed because he wanted to keep the Coaching Staff on "edge".

I've never been the biggest Wade as HC fan but this team is obviously heading in the right direction. We're basically a young team that's only going to get better. With Wade running the D next year we may truly be a dominant D next year.

Good for Wade. I'm happy for him. Now go kick some Viking ***!

Congrats Wade, couldn't have happened to better guy, you deserve it.

You know what though, nothing could motivate him more right now than to know he is not a lame duck Head Coach. I think Minnesota just ensured some pain is coming.

True.

But I think Wade Phillips knew he was going to be retained with out any doubt after winning the Playoff Game.

Cowboyszone and the City of Dallas is going to go CRAZY if the Boys are playing in the NFC Championship Game.

However, it will be interesting to see who "turns" on Wade Philliips and the team if we lose Sunday.

And even more interesting, who starts "posting" again  :laugh1: .

What is this lose on Sunday you speak of?

It would be Werder and Mortensen floating black helicopters theories.

I told you before I dread losses because I know who gets vocal and who is quiet right now. You're seeing it aren't you?

I am.

..

I also think that Wade is a perfect fit for jerry. Better than Gailey, Switzer or Campo. It just seems to mesh well, team aspect of it too. He can't lose by keeping the dude around. JMO, of course.

I'm happy to hear that it looks like Wade will be back next season. He has done so much good for the D I can't imagine someone else doing any better. Let's beat those Vikings and hope we are hosting the NFC Championship next Sunday. :)

Give me a name.

The way the defense is playing I'm not sure we can afford to not have Wade come back. The day Wade leaves the defense will take a big hit.

Totally wanted him gone after the first few games this season...

He's done a hell of a job in changing my mind

Why the rush to fill Grantham's spot? Pasqualoni does not excite me as a DL coach. But if Wade likes him ....

If Wade is back then I dont believe it has anything to do with winning a playoff game.

The TEAM has played VERY WELL the last 5 or 6 games. THAT is better than just winning a playoff game. It shows that things are working now. Not just a flash in the pan playoff win (one game)

I just want Wade back. We may not win the Super Bowl this year, but he has put us in a position to, and I think that's all you can ask at this point. Our team is playing better than most of us could have imagined.
