[FONT=verdana, geneva]Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has not yet exercised the fourth-year option in Wade Phillips' contract, and has maintained he will not address Phillips' future until after the season.
But Friday's announcement that Paul Pasqualoni will replace the departing Todd Grantham as defensive line coach -- a suggestion made directly from Phillips to Jones on Thursday -- is the strongest indication yet that Phillips will be back for at least the 2010 season.
Jones agrees.
"I think it does," said Jones, who again endorsed the job Phillips has done this season, leading the Cowboys to their second division title in three years and their first playoff win since 1996. "I certainly am interested in building on what we've got going right now in a positive way. I think that it would clearly say -- if you sort through the circumstances of Paul's hiring -- it's on go here for Wade.
"But again, we haven't sat down and talked about it. And I do have to, every time we (the media) talk about it, remind us that for all practical purposes Wade is under contract."
By that, Jones means the fourth-year option is already stated in Phillips' three-year deal. Exercising it is a mere formality.
And whenever the season ends, it appears that indeed will be the case.
