I haven’t seen this game, but this kid is capable of being an every down back. I think he is going to be a steal.
Showed fantastic balance and make-you-miss ability. Not as much ability to run through tackles.

I think another aspect of Vaughns game people are sleeping on is his ability as a slot guy and to get open quick.
Was open for that overthrow downfield and made a nice catch for a first down.

I agree. I maintain that he has the highest ceiling of any RB not named Pollard on this team. And no one is as agile as he is in tight spaces.
His agility definitely is what gives him the best chance. He can make defenders miss and be past them in a blink. Now, if he's hit, he doesn't appear likely to escape, but he's hard to hit.

It was hopeless in the first quarter for any running back in the world to succeed. (Or QB, playmaker, etc)

The Jags have a very stout first-string front and they were rolling with it! Meanwhile Dallas was peddling a second-string o-line unit with third-string ability. Can we spell out monster mismatch any more clearly?

Malik deserves a 100% pass by any thoughtful judgment. He looked bad. But he had not chance to look otherwise. And frankly, in that same situation Vaughn (my boy) might have looked worse. Rico and Vaughn showed some juice, but only because they had a sliver of a chance.
I agree that Davis and Dowdle faced a tougher assignment, but that's also why I'd like to see Vaughn early. Pollard probably isn't going to play in the preseason, so rotate the rest so they face the same challenge. Maybe Deuce would have done better against Jacksonville's front. Maybe not. I'd just like to see each back given an equal chance instead of there being a vet hierarchy. ... And maybe that will be the plan. Deuce played the best, so he deserves the next start. If he struggles and one of the other backups look better, give that one the next start.

I know it's just a preseason game and that he played against the scrubs of the scrubs, but Vaughn's play was so much more electrical than the other backs. I would love to see them move him up in the pecking order so we can see what he can do against better competition. In fact, I'd flip the roles for this next game. Davis and Dowdle got the early carries and Vaughn and Luepke the late ones. Let's change it up because we just don't know what we've got at the spot. Nothing is settled other than Pollard.
it will be interesting to see how the coaches proceed with Deuce. He does need reps, particularly with the starters, but I don't want him injured!

He's going to be a menace at the second level. He's not going to try to run people over. He's going to run past, or by defenders. Using those cat like moves. This is what I was hoping for when Dallas drafted him, and I looked at his tape. It's still early, but I have confidence.

Im sure this will be another post of mine that will go ignored, but what the heck.

Catch radius. One of the several issues I have with Vaughn. We saw a bit of that when Grier over threw him and it was almost picked.

Even on the one he did catch he had to jump up to catch it. A couple inches higher and it's over his head. The problem? Those are very well placed balls for a 6'0 WR.

You see, there are nuances that the casual fan doesnt even consider.

Because he is so short, the QB has got to be keenly aware of when hes on the field. He is a tiny target in the passing game. QBs have a much smaller hit box when targeting him. And one small mis throw and its over his head or tipped.

Running the ball is also a potential for turn overs. The simple mechanics of handing off the ball changes. Pollard is 6'0. A much bigger "bread basket". Duece comes in and the ball placement is much different. Dak has to consciously be aware of this. Yet another thing for him to consider.

I know ya'll will look at this as nit picking, but these are all things actually coaches consider.

It certainly looks that way. He shows the quick change of direction that leaves defenders grasping at air. I agree that it's early, though, and we need to see more. For one game, however, his skills certainly translated. I think we did see the good (his ability to maneuver in space) and the bad (his inability to escape some tackles), but the good far outweighed the bad.

yea that would have been a td if it was a clean throw
Not sure if it would have been since there was a defender behind him who almost intercepted the ball. Maybe Vaughn could have juked him, but I can't say he wouldn't have come up and made the hit.

With the scrubs behind Pollard, he needs to be on the 53.
Lol, Deuce will be awesome and Rico is a solid player as well. Better scrub up on the brain cells and get some new contacts.

I really liked what I saw of him. They were able to bring him down with a couple of arm tackles, but dang he can juke his way through a crowd. He also looked good as a receiver.
He is about as good as it gets as a receiver. A great fit for this offense.

Bro relax. You're stance has already been solidified. We get it. You don't think he's good and think he'll be cut.
