Nope, he looked like he was on his way after 2016... It's been all down hill from there.

I will always remember 2016 fondly. Dak and Zeke were incredible. It is hard to believe that it has been downhill for the offense ever since. I never could have imagined. Thank goodness the defense has been getting better.

Meh….the same could be said about Romo until we got a running game. Same things….check out of runs, changing the plays on and on. I loved Romo way more than Dak too. He was awesome. Having said all that this offensive scheme sucks and I’ve hated it for over a decade now. That’s the problem. Not the QB’s.
I think wasting 15 combined years so far on an undrafted and 4th round talent at the most important position on the field is a bigger problem than many want to admit.

Nope , he was much limited in his mechanics at that time , he improved slowly in the 2nd season , but OL broke ( read Tyron ) and that affected him much, remember that Atlanta game, Clayborne made whoever was the tackle his ….. and Dak was never the same , last year 1st 6 games he was very good , KM’s plan worked until Denver game.

most zoners never called him elite but a good Qb , who needs lot of support like OL , Run game and receivers who consistently show separation.
You've had 7 years to develop the narrative critiquing his mechanics. That wasn't being said during his rookie season. You are just spouting revisionist history. I'm not talking about what zoners say about Dak. We all know they contain a large contingent of Dak haters. I'm talking about what the sports media was saying about Dak in 2016.

Just don’t turn into one of these Prescott haters. It’s OK to critique the quarterback when he screws up. But they totally dislike him and say his garbage that’s baloney

He's not garbage, he just hasn't taken us anywhere

To be elite you need to be capable of performing at that elite level consistently. Dak has certainly had his elite moments, but as we all know it wasn't there when it mattered most. There is a reason an NBA team doesn't sign the overweight, middle aged guy who just won a new car by hitting a halfcourt, halftime shot, to be their new shooting guard. Consistency. Dak now has a chance to prove whether he is elite or not.

I guess I just don't see what significance that has in the grand scheme. The MVP is great for his personal accolades and he had a great season, but the Ravens lost in the Divisional round that season. I'm reading on this board constantly that Dak's numbers and stats don't mean anything unless he wins something. So while the MVP is a nice accomplishment, it ultimately puts him at the same place Dak currently is. Except, very soon, you're going to have to pay Lamar A LOT more.
If you put it that way, why pay extra for achieving "greatness"? Just pay everyone the same wage. $250,000.00 plus medical care sounds fair.
That would cut down on ticket price.
.
However, you're right. In the grand scheme of things it's just a game. There are things that are MUCH more important.

I was a big time Dak fan in 2016 even though I was a total Romo fanatic. The problem is that the guy has now been paid like a champ but has been trending the wrong way in terms of effectiveness, results and durability. I am still hopeful that things can turn around but the signs have not been good as of late.

Elite to me no matter the sport or position you play are individuals who play to a very high level on a consistent basis every season. There are players who have had excellent season but on the norm they do not play elite year to year.
Dak I think falls into very good player but is not elite. I do think elite is rare air, very that few fall into the best of the best.

I personally don't think that Dak was ever elite, but he's very good. His production proves that. With that said, you don't have to be elite to win a Superbowl....

All Superbowl winning quarterbacks weren't elite and there are elite quarterbacks who have NEVER won a Superbowl.

Are you excuses ready for the Lions game just in case Dak stinks it up again out there?
Rusty is probably your # 1 and then the thumb isn't healed 100% is your # 2.
Then you will start with the usual excuses....Kellen,Offline,Running game,we have no WR, same old same old.......

Well his thumb definitely won't be an excuse (not one accepted anyway). No way that isn't healed by now.

If there are 32 teams with 32 starting QB's then his stats would have to put him in the top eight in order to even be considered as elite. He was one of eight QB's that had a QBR over 100 last year. So he was better than 75% of the QB's last year.

I'm not saying he's elite, but he can definitely look like it at times.

As I’ve said before, there is always a constant re-writing of the narrative regarding Dak. After his putrid last half of the season last year, his biggest fans started flipping the script that they never declared him elite on this board. Without getting in particular posters on this site, among them folks who claimed he was better than Mahomes or Allen, the following article clearly establishes that people were actually challenging the general claim that Dak proved himself elite, meaning this was a common perception that needed to be addressed.

https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/cowboys-dak-prescott-stats-good-teams-contract-01e8w476239v

The numbers aren’t changing since this article has been written. Even without taking into consideration the win-loss record, Dak is horrible when it comes to TD/INT numbers against quality competition and the stakes are high. 2021 was actually a greater demonstration of this very fact that Dak is a garbage-time QB that is basically in the category of a Goff, though we haven’t seen Dak on a team anywhere near as bad as Detroit. Both of them were horrible on their later progressions and both of them were on good teams, beating up bad opponents.

You can’t claim it’s because of the ‘defense’ he loses.
Define Elite...the answer is no. But you do not have to be an Elite QB to contend for and win a Super Bowl. Roger was Elite and won a Super Bowl. Don Meredith, Danny White, and Craig Morton were not considered elite but contended for and play for Championships.

Dan Marino, Dan Fouts, were Elite and never won a Super Bowl. Kurt Warner was a grocery bagger, never considered elite and contended and won a Super Bowl. Trent Dilfer was no way elite or a Pro Bowler but won a Super Bowl with only 1 Pro Bowl appearance for Tampa Bay.

The Dallas Cowboys and every Cowboys QB since 1994 has to clear one major hurdle for a Super Bowl each year...Jerry Dumbo GM Jones. Aikman could only do it once 1995 with Jimmy Johnson's team and then could not do it, Carter could not do it, Romo could not do it and Dak has not gotten over that impossible hurdle.
