Yes or no?

Why or why not?

This is an easy question to answer for me. I'm just interested in hearing what other fans think about Frederick .

I think when you talk about the value of a first round pick, you have to look at what selection that first rounder was.

I think that Fred was worth the 31st pick 100%. In general, I think he's first round material, and could have been picked higher than where we took him. If we were picking higher and took Fred, then I would disagree (say #18).

tl;dr: Yes, I believe that Fred was worth a first round pick because pick 31 happens to fall in the first round.

He appears to be the perfect pick for the Cowboys. Center was their biggest need and you can't get one in Free Agency.

The fact that they got Fred and T. Williams for their original 1st round pick is even better.

Do I think a quality NFL starting center is worth a 1st round pick? Sure.

Whether he's quality or not is yet to be determined, I'm not making any proclamations based on 2 preseason games, but so far, so good.

A lot of people will probably tie Williams to the Frederick pick, but I think Frederick needs to stand on his own.

He's already the best looking linemen on the line. I mean, he is glaringly better than the others, even better than Tyron Smiff.

How come when you ask the board their opinion of something you withhold your opinion until a few start giving their answers? Why not just give your opinion instead of waiting to see what the consensus is? It makes it appear your answer is going to be based on what others think. It's way too soon to know if Frederick was worth a first round pick we'll find that out during the regular season.

+1
A quality center is a huge upgrade to an OL. Lots of teams get by with plugging a glorified guard into that spot, but having someone that can make all the blocks, anchor the interior, AND make the correct protection/blocking calls is pure gold. Definitely worth spending a first on.

So far so good, yes, though the OP's premise is somewhat skewed. Frederick was picked at the very end of round one and the pick came with a bonus third rounder. For the team to get an appropriate return on their picks they just need both players to be decent starters or have one of them become an exceptional player.

IMO, of course.

Haha, did you just criticize the OP for not giving an opinion, and then refuse to give an opinion?

Yes, Frederick was absolutely worth a first round pick.

Heck, yeah, he was worth it, we needed a center, Costa was not getting the job done. The center is the QB of the OL, we needed a big strong and intelligent guy to man that position, Costa is neither of those things.

Now we need to use the next draft and draft and get either a Guard in the 1st or 2nd, or a RT in the 1st or 2nd or both and finish the OL and then start with the same process for the DL.

No, I think he could have been drafted in the 2nd round.

supposedly there were other teams ready to pounce on Frederick (Baltimore) and from what we've seen so far I find that entirely believable. Like Gil Brandt says, if you see a guy you want then go get him, don't take unnecessary risks.

He was easily worth the 31st pick in the first round. Easily.

Frederick and T Williams are easily worth the 18th pick in the first round. Easily.

As it turns out, it was a very good trade by the Cowboys.

Other recent 1st round centers were the Pouncey brothers and I don't see those guys being in a higher class than Frederick.

IMO, there is no way he makes it to that pick. Personally, I think Baltimore would have jumped at the chance to take him with the 32nd pick.
