Was Frederick Worth a First Round Pick?

Why? There have been plenty of people who determined that he wasn't worth that pick and that it was a bad trade before he had even played in those 2 games.

That was due to his play in college and his pre draft workouts. We're being asked now to judge him off a few snaps in preseason. I haven't read all the posts in this thread but I doubt many if any have said he wasn't worth the pick off of what they've seen so far from him during preseason.

It's a question that can't be answered after only 2 preseason games and I explained why. Have you already come to a yes or no answer on Frederick? We debated Parnell during the offseason and you seemed completely sold on him and I explained why I wasn't and thought he wouldn't amount to anything more than an average player. I saw enough of him to make a call. I haven't seen enough of Frederick to know whether he was worth a first round pick. I need to see him play during the regular season against quality starting players before I'll know if he was worth a #1 pick.

You're saying you had no thoughts about Fred's worth when he was picked?

Funny, I didn't realize the OP said to make a determination based solely on his preseason performances...

Oh, wait, he didn't.

Yes.

It was a bad draft class. The better options were to go the conservative route and to draft positions like guard and center. Other teams thought the same thing with the inordinate amount of guards being drafted. By drafting him we got a guy that could play either center or guard immediately which allowed us some flexibility if other linemen got injured. He fits the scheme as well.

He appears to be the perfect pick for the Cowboys. Center was their biggest need and you can't get one in Free Agency.

The fact that they got Fred and T. Williams for their original 1st round pick is even better.

Perfectly stated. Frederick and Williams for the 18th pick was great. Like Mangold has for the Jets, I believe T Fred will prove to be a center absolutely worthy of a first round pick.

I had no thoughts about him when he was picked because I had never seen him play. Most who had seen him play had him rated as a 2nd and 3rd round pick.

With the timing of his thread and the fact that Frederick has looked good in preseason you would have to assume the OP is basing his question on Frederick's preseason performances. If his question isn't based on Frederick's preseason performances then why didn't the OP ask the question before preseason? :)

All that is fair and you may have been right about Parnell. But that wasn't the point. Anything else should be in PMs.

Right now he's definitely worth it because he's penciled in as a day one starter. And as a starting OL, he probably plays more snaps (or as many) as anyone we could have selected in the first round.

This is so true. Plus, he is a Wisconsin boy and they are known for developing linemen. So far from what I have seen, pre-season or not, is that he is playing against other professional NFL football players weather they make their team or not, they were good enough to get a shot at playing in the NFL, so they are not some scrub College players.

The dude is also strong as an ox and will only get stronger, smart as hell with I think an Engineering Degree, and plays one of the hardest spots to play on the oline.

And this is just my opinion of him, but when he made that remark about "being able to beat people up on the field" without suffering any consequences (or something to that effect)...I really knew I was going to like this pick.

It's not hard. We had the 18th pick. We traded it for the 31st and a 3rd. We spent the 31st on Fred and the 3rd on Will. If Will is a complete bust and doesn't even make the team, then we essentially spent our 18th on only Fred.

Sorry, but that is terrible logic.

A decision shouldn't be judged on hindsight but rather on the information available at the time the decision was made.

Agree. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, the available information had our 5th overall player on the board available at 18, and we passed to trade down for less value than the trade chart.

Once that horrible decision was made, I had no problem with picking Frederick at 31. But Floyd absolutely should have been the pick at 18.

Jerry didn't want to make the Max Unger mistake again so he took the best center in Fredrick and didn't look back .

We don't know anything more about Parnell now than we did this spring. He tried to make it through a couple of practices with a hamstring injury and was finally pulled off the field to get healthy.

Yes as long as he stays healthy Dallas secured the Center position, Romo got an extra 1/2 second and guys aren't being pushed into the backfield on every play.

So far a resounding HELLZ YEAH!

Are you sure you want the HELLZ YEAH right now? Because some want to see if he can handle probowlers first.

As of right now, yes. Besides, what do you care what we FANS talk about on this Cowboy forum?

Who said anything about caring what you talked about? Talk about whatever the heck you want lol...

I just asked if you actually thought reaching a conclusion about the guy so quickly from all that talking was possible.
