Watkins takes over for Williams... permanently?

Well, it looks like Watkins will be the starting SS for at least the next 4 weeks, while Williams is out with a fractured forearm. This might make a few fans a little nervous, but I think even more Cowboy fans are happy about it and especially on this board. Watkins is a much taller DB at 6-5 and that will certainly help him against other TE's in the league. He's definitely faster than Roy and I don't think anyone will dispute that. If Watkins starts to make plays at the SS position, it's going to be hard for Williams to come back as the starter IMO. I certainly won't shed any tears over it though, because it's all about making plays.

I think Watkins will take advantage of this oppurtunity.

Anybody thats happy about one of their plays getting injured is a piece of **** and doesn't deserve to call themselves a fan of that team.

But, yet, Roy has been heading to the sideline to be replaced by Watkins in nickel and dime situations situations, which are almost 50% of defense snaps.

Funny that a FAR better player has to be taken out of the game for a FAR worse player for almost half the game.

Watkins might not hit like the old Roy but I'm sure he can make tackles just as well as Roy did 10 yards down field. can you honestly remember the last time Roy made a play behind the line of scrimmage or at the line? can you remember that last time he made a big hit on a running back?

That's b/c Parcells was dumb enough to throw a 4th round rookie into the starting lineup right away.

He's in his 3rd year now-Roy will be gone for only a month, Pat will be fine during this time.

I don't think Watkins would be in the Nickel if he didn't have coverage abilities.

So far this year...

Watkins has 8 tackles...7 solo.
Williams has 6 tackles...4 solo.

One of the main reasons why Wade wanted Watkins to be a SS, is because of his aggressiveness and tackling ability. He said as much in his press conference today.

I think this clearly should open the door to him playing SS for us.

He left to go to Miami to compete for a starting position at SS and he has filled in well at times.

I think unless there is some issue with him, he immediately should be included in at least a rotation at the position until somebody establishes a streak of play that would give them the majority of playing time.

Watkins is much more of a FS if you ask me. His speed in the secondary is needed and he's already knocked away a pass or two this season with his height going down the middle. He just needs to cover better.

My answer to any concern or debate. He's earned it, especially with his return to the team and how much better the KR and coverage units have improved since he came back.

You play those units to get a shot at starting when something happens.

KD sucks as a safety. So that's strike 1, 2, and 3 against this idea.
