Pay no attention to the criticism of value and sacks and all that is coming. The Cowboys finally have added a real powerful bleepkicking DT who will not be bullied. A tone setter that will do all the dirty work to free up his teammates. There's a reason why Micah Parsons was so excited for the pick.

Oh and he's not just a NT. The tools are there to develop as a rusher. He moves better than his size. He's quick. He's got great feet for a big man. Dan Quinn has a lot to work with.

This is a radical shift in philosophy that I think we all should applaud.

The Cowboys will get mediocre grades for this selection and those grades will be wrong. He is exactly what we needed on defense, and as my 25th ranked player on my board I can say without any bias that he's value at the pick.

Well done. Thank you. I don't think I could have gone another season without a real DT. Now, for the love of God, don't crap the bed in round 2.

Risen Star is genuinely excited!

I am too!

Now go out an prove us right!

When the Cowboys were on the clock there was a debate going between MM and the others including Will.

Just a guess but I bet MM wanted the TE here and they talked it over and voted for Mazi instead.

IF it is true they like LaPorta, they probably made an argument that he might fall to them at 58 but mazi would not,

Later KC called the cowboys and said that if they had not picked Mazi, they would. That was actually the player they, KC, were trying to trade up to take.
I’m sure KC called and said you got our guy. Not!

The post draft presser was interesting. You could feel the tension between Maccarthy and the Jones's.
Yep, then the footage of the war room must have disappeared. McCarthy clearly upset, and Jerry wondering if he made the right move.

Yeah I don’t think Jerry liked the pick. MM and DQ probably talked him into it.
To me it looked the other way around, that MM didn't like the pick Jerry made.

To me, you need both. I think with TE, they want to make sure they've got a player they like, if it were the first round.

Looking at the war room cam, they were having a pretty heavy debate was just under three minutes left on the clock. You could tell it was a tough decision. Hopefully they made the right choice.

They were debating whether or not to accept the trade offer...

They were debating whether or not to accept the trade offer...
Which means they weren’t real sold on any of the players available. Stephen said they had about four players there with the same grade and were debating it. If you’re sold on one player you’re not debating whether to accept a trade. The ESPN crew was surprised by the pick. It really doesn’t matter what anyone thinks time will tell whether it was a good pick or not.

This would be a good time for MM to begin pondering like after football.

Great pick Dan and Jerry

If he's an upgrade over an older Hankins from last year then it's a good pick. If he's no better or less than Hankins, then it's not so good.

Ya know it’s funny.

We lucked into Parsons because the two corners were taken right before us.

Now we lucked into Mazi because the hills traded in front of us and took Kincaid.

I’ll take it anyway I can get it.
Inaccurate. Give Will McClay and the scouting dept some credit. Every year, someone states that Dal just “stumbles or lucks up”with their picks. Smh.. ridiculous

They talked about it extensively during The Draft Show Live Feed. The Insiders all concurred that Dallas has wanted TE LaPorta all along.. he’s still available. Kincaid had nothing to do with the decision. Buff only knew Dal was interested in TE’s, so they jumped ahead to secure the guy they wanted. Waste of a move by Buff tho, bc Dall decided to go a diff route all together.. and it’s ab time.

Cowboys FO worked the phone until the last second. Couldn't find good trade down.

They definitely liked Mazi, but would have wished to get him a little later.

I don't hate this pick at all...but he's no "War Daddy" and will in fact quickly become a punching bag because fans here don't have a clue about realistic DT production, and don't understand what a crappy draft class this is.

It's a B- pick from a weak class of puppies. Mazi will be largely invisible in the box score, but he will make teammates more productive. And he'll disrupt things. There is value in that.

FINALLY...FINALLY they picked a run stopper! YES
Mazi grades out as a run stopper. And a 2nd day pick.

But he isn’t a pass rusher.

and he’s big and slow. 330+ LBs.

He’s gonna be in the DT rotation.

25+ snaps a game.

Strengths
  • Possesses rare combination of size and athleticism.
  • Bendy and stout in his lower half.
  • Power to punch and lift blocker under his pads.
  • Plays with lively feet and short-area quickness.
  • Able to slide, swim and seize the gap.
  • Yanks and pulls guards off-balance from any direction.
  • Foot quickness to be part of a twisting rush unit.
Weaknesses
  • Hasn’t made many plays behind the line of scrimmage.
  • Motor runs out of gas when tempo heats up.
  • Slow reaction to movement gets him sealed.
  • Struggled against Iowa’s zone scheme attack.
  • Surprising lack of anchor consistency against double teams.
  • Unlikely to see many passing downs as a pro.

Cant be true. Catch said it’s bad value and he’s always right. According to him
