I don't know what to say. I have basically gone most drafts not liking the pick. The Cowboys took a good player at a huge position of need that they normally ignore. This is while they retained their safeties to have possibly the best group in the league. I love it but its like I'm in bizarro world. I don't know if my car is going to drive backwards this morning or if rain is going to fall upwards. Its to the point where its disconcerting.

As far as Mazi being a reach, almost all of the mocks I saw had him as a late first, early second. At most, he may have been taken a few slots too early. This isn't a Tristan situation where he was taken rounds too early.

For those not familiar with a good DT, which might be a lot of us, he isn't going to put up big stats but his presence will make the other players around him look even better. LVE isn't going to get hit 5 yards downfield on running plays every time. Micah isn't going to watch QB's evade him by just stepping up in the pocket easily.

So, glad they went that way.

After watching how the Eagles beefed up their DL maybe a lightbulb went off in Cowboys front office.

I've been crying for a behemoth DT for a decade, I'm not going to complain now. I felt that was their biggest defensive need. He just made Micah even better AND made Hankins's life easier who can stay fresh. I'm hoping this also makes the 3-tech rotation better, as guys like Gallimore can concentrade on that position. All good. Now get me the best G/T you can get, and the draft will be a success, regardless of the remaining 5 picks.

I was hoping to trade down and grab Ika or Benton but whatever they addressed a real need. Smith seems to be a guy with a high floor and potential to be a beast. His lack of production is concerning but that is probably more a function of what they wanted him to do. Guy is an impressive athlete for a big man. Maybe he will shake the cobwebs off of Gallimore too. I bet DQ is a happy man.
