.5 sacks and 5 TFL in 28 games is quite literally the opposite of a war daddy. I understand the need to stop the run, but not a pick 26.

It’s a reach at 26.

He was ranked 38th by ESPN. That’s 2nd round for sure.

He had 48 tackles for a NT which is a high amount. As McClay alluded to they will get him out of that 4pt stance which will enable him to penetrate more.

Pay no attention to the criticism of value and sacks and all that is coming. The Cowboys finally have added a real powerful bleepkicking DT who will not be bullied. A tone setter that will do all the dirty work to free up his teammates. There's a reason why Micah Parsons was so excited for the pick.

Oh and he's not just a NT. The tools are there to develop as a rusher. He moves better than his size. He's quick. He's got great feet for a big man. Dan Quinn has a lot to work with.

This is a radical shift in philosophy that I think we all should applaud.

The Cowboys will get mediocre grades for this selection and those grades will be wrong. He is exactly what we needed on defense, and as my 25th ranked player on my board I can say without any bias that he's value at the pick.

Well done. Thank you. I don't think I could have gone another season without a real DT. Now, for the love of God, don't crap the bed in round 2.

Big Mike got another BJ Raji to anchor.

They key is whether they can develop a pass rush. His physical traits suggest he should be a factor there but never was in college. If he is exclusively a run stopper than great, but probably not first round pick worthy. If he can be a threat to get to the qb, he could really wreck defenses when you factor in every team is game planning around Micah and our other rushers.

Unless Quinn can teach him to impact the passing game he won’t be on the field but 30% snaps. I trust Quinn to find a way to use him but I don’t think you use a first round pick on a guy playing 30% of snaps
I hope Quinn can fix that but I think the whole we can’t stop the run was over blown. It’s not like we had a bad run defense. We was middle of the pack, average

the only way he is going to work is fire off the ball and get penetration and use his only attribute which is his strength.

Absolutely love this pick!

Like Micah said no more QB sneaks and runs up the middle. Let’s go get us a LG and TE tonight

It’s more than the that. The continuous clean pockets to step up into. Great breakdown by Baldy

Just like Parson pick. They will say it’s a ok pick now. When he hits the field it will be a great pick. Kid should transition easy.

Mazi grades out as a run stopper. And a 2nd day pick.

But he isn’t a pass rusher.

and he’s big and slow. 330+ LBs.

He’s gonna be in the DT rotation.

25+ snaps a game.

Strengths
  • Possesses rare combination of size and athleticism.
  • Bendy and stout in his lower half.
  • Power to punch and lift blocker under his pads.
  • Plays with lively feet and short-area quickness.
  • Able to slide, swim and seize the gap.
  • Yanks and pulls guards off-balance from any direction.
  • Foot quickness to be part of a twisting rush unit.
Weaknesses
  • Hasn’t made many plays behind the line of scrimmage.
  • Motor runs out of gas when tempo heats up.
  • Slow reaction to movement gets him sealed.
  • Struggled against Iowa’s zone scheme attack.
  • Surprising lack of anchor consistency against double teams.
  • Unlikely to see many passing downs as a pro.
Say what you want, but I'll trust he'll do well until he doesn't. Why? The Cowboys have been pretty stellar at first round picks for quite some time. With Quinn running the D, I'm sure he'll get expert advice.
