Mario Williams got 2 yrs 17.5 mil and Prince Amukamura got signed to the Jags for 5 mil.. No thanks.

Maybe Long for 1 yr 2 mil.

Williams can be cut for only $2MM in dead money after this season so it's actually a team friendly deal.

Probably easier to find a backup QB after the draft when teams have made changes and release decent QBs. For example, Cleveland just signed RG3 and could still probably draft Wentz/Goff, so I'm sure they'll get rid of Josh McCown via trade or cut. And other QBs of similar quality will become available later in free agency. If we would have signed a veteran QB on Day 1 of free agency, who should it have been?

There weren't any good pass rushers available who wouldn't have come at a steep price. We saw Olivier Vernon become the highest paid DE of all time on Day 1 of free agency. Then we saw a team overpay for Mario Williams. Which pass rushers were/are available at a reasonable price (besides Hardy)?

None of the CBs who signed so far were of Revis/Talib caliber like free agent CBs from previous years. Everyone who signed was of similar caliber to Brandon Carr. Other than the fact that Carr is overpaid and fans want to get rid of him, I don't see the Patrick Robinsons and Leon Halls of the world being much of an improvement. And Leon Hall is still available if we want to go in that direction.

I have bit my tongue all offseason about saying the following: The PR nightmare associated with signing Greg Hardy has already been incurred, so we might as well try to work a deal and bring him back. Was he an ALL Pro last year? No! Was he our best pass rusher last year? Yes! And let's not forget all the time he missed while being suspended. Additionally, I think he played injured(which is different from being hurt) for a good portion of the year last season.

So the growing pains associated with shaking off rust, adjusting to a new team and coaching staff, being hounded by the media about his past, and playing under the "bright lights" that comes with being a Dallas Cowboy....he and the team have already gone through. I am pretty confident that with all that behind him, he would have a much better season on and off the field if given another chance.

One 'fixes' in the draft...and adds a special single piece in free agency...

Unless one really believes that millions are monopoly money.

I think one fixes obvious holes in free agency so one is not left to draft for need, rather than best player available

Time will tell, I will be surprised if they roll into the draft after bringing in Hall, Robinson, Carrol, and reported interest in Heyward. Appears to me they are trying to upgrade.

There are lots of cuts that will happen across the 32 teams before the opening weekend. If we are short a CB, I'm pretty sure Will McClay will
find one.

While I agree with all of that, it's the off the field stuff from last season that has given the Cowboys pause in resigning him. That is a big shame for all the crap we took in our original gamble.

I agree/disagree. Assembling a 53 man roster of choirboys.....or "RKG" is unrealistic. Managing different personalities (some more difficult than others) is part of earning the 5M Garrett gets every year. And I think it is especially true when it comes to Garrett for the following reason: Garrett has not proven/shown to be an X and O type of coach. He comes from a culture and coaching tree of "being better than the man" in front of you. He does not try to trick. History has shown you CAN win like this. But this approach to winning games requires a strong motivator and disciplinarian....which is what Jimmy was. So I think if Jason wants to attempt to win this way....he needs to prove he can manage a few "difficult" personalities and get the best out of them...especially at position of need...like pass rush.

The defination of a RKG doesn't mean they have to be chiorboys.

Of course we don't know everything that goes on in a lockeroom....but it has been reported that Hardy was late for meetings....and we saw him have some heated exchanges on the sideline. Like I said...if that is it...then Garrett needs to learn how to "handle" that. Bellicheck has had everyone from Corey Dillion, to Randy Moss, to Chad Ocho Cinco, to Albert Haynesworth, to LeGarette Blount, to Asante Samuel...and now has signed on for Martellus Bennett. I am sure there have been more...but we at least know that the guys I mentioned have had their "issues". So we need pass rush....Hardy is the best we got at it.....Garrett needs to WIN this year....so Garrett needs to make it work.

If you and I disagree on it....then it is what it is....but this "process" stuff has worn out it's welcome....this RKG stuff has worn out it's welcome.....time to get it done.

The off season isn't over and there are still players that MIGHT help at those positions although backup QB is doubtful. Still there is the possibility of trades that could still happen so I wouldn't jump ship to say we must draft someone. Not taking the BPA in the first round is always, repeat ALWAYS, a mistake.

A very good perspective of who and why they select in free agency as their standard:

QUESTION 1: Cowboys fans thought that the team would be getting a solid free agent corner in Patrick Robinson, but then he backed out and signed with Indianapolis. What is your feeling on that?

It was disappointing that the Cowboys weren't able to sign Robinson. I like him. He is a good player. With so many questions still lingering at the cornerback position, a player with his skills would fit nicely on this defense. But it didn't happen and I'm fine with it. These athletes are trying to do what is best for their careers. Let's face it - Dallas has become tight wads in recent years. If a player can get more money elsewhere, so be it. You can't fault them for that.

But there is another element to this ordeal that is getting brushed aside and that is the Cowboys don't play games in free agency. They absolute refuse to overpay for free agents. Even more impressive is when they do sign a player, it always comes in the form of the player having to bet on himself. Look at all the one-year deals. Or you have a contract like Cedric Thornton that will give him more money in the last two years of his deal should he prove that he is worth it. Alfred Morris signed a real cheap deal, but if he is as good as he believes he is, he's going to have a productive tenure in Dallas. And what will that mean for him when he enters free agency? More money. DeMarco Murray showed everyone that you don't have to be a superstar to be paid like one.

Need to pay closer attention to what is stated. The team acquired enough depth to have positions covered with veterans. The majority of upgrade, as is the policy in effect for the past five seasons, is to add top levels of talent through the draft.

That's just the way things are being done. There is enough top shelf talent on the team, to be able to do just this, and be a high level competitive.

IF the QB is healthy...

A does not lead to B...naw, the process is very smart, and does the job. Team improvements as to blue chippers, comes from drafts. That allows for a sustainable cash flow when retention time and team collective esperience and strength come to the table to be renewed.
