We need to beat the Giants

Tight End probably.

I think what concerns me about the Giants week 1 is that we don't really know what they're going to be. A lot of question marks with their passrush and receiving corps (including Waller) and just how their offense is going to operate..

If the Cowboys can block and are fairly sharp on offense, they're the better team. But NYG should be able to generate explosives much better than they have in the past.
I wont argue the TE position too much, especially since we are talking about week 1. Given the Cowboys youth and Waller's recent history of missing games I can see them having the TE advantage week 1, but that looking very different by Thanksgiving. DT is probably the other one they take the advantage.

Waller is the one guy who does throw a bit of a wrench into what DQ may want to do though, and could make them more explosive you're right. The chess match NYG can potentially use in how Dallas covers Waller and Barkley. LVE was probably underappreciated last year for his abilities in coverage. He has the length to take on bigger TEs, especially up the seam, but he also ran very well with RBs in the flat. He can't cover both players though. My guess is we see a lot of 1 deep safety looks, challenge the outside CBs to play man with minimal help over the top and focus more resources inside. I'd challenge NY to beat us on big plays instead of letting them hit the underneath routes and qb runs, which gives our pass rushers more opportunities to get to the QB. All a guess, we will see.

I agree NY has a bit of a puncher chance in this one. Strictly looking at the rosters though I think Dallas should win this one 70% of the time.

according to some on here we need to lose bc every good season we have had in the last decade+ we have lost the first game
I can’t believe I actually read that also. Talk about I don’t know what to use for word beyond stupidity.

I think they are going to be dangerous and underrated this year. A playoff team if we don’t take care of business. I could see them going 11-6 and us going 10-7 if we lose to them here. Take care of business and get that W
Winning or losing this game has no bearing on how the season will play out. Personally, I think we destroy the Giants.

I don’t see us having a good season if we lose to the Giants in the opener.

I will be waiting for the meltdowns in the game thread. As we go on offense first. 3 pages of it. Even though NY wins the toss and defers. So Dallas had no control over it.
Though I am sure many will blame Dak for calling the wrong side of the coin.

Wasn't it 2016 when we lost to the giants and then won 11 straight.
The NFC East wasn’t as good then. It was a battle between us and the Giants in 2016. The NFC East had three playoff teams last season and they all won a playoff game. With the schedule the Cowboys have I’m not counting on 11 consecutive wins if we drop the opener this year. We could easily start off 0-2 with the Jets and Aaron Rodgers coming up in week two. The Jets look like they could have a pretty good team this year and we all know the struggles we’ve had against Rodgers.

I wouldn’t go that far but so far he has proven that he can’t get us to a NFCCG
And if he does, then the goalposts will be moved again in order for the peanut gallery to maintain some claim to saying that they are right.

Regarding the initial topic of this post, the NFL is a week to week league. Winning every game would be great, but it simply is not realistic. Claiming the first game of the season is "must win" is insane.

Dallas has proven they can't get past the Divisional round way before Dak. Dak has played well enough in a couple of the postseason losses that either coaching or the defense choked and were the primary reasons for not moving to the next round.
There are many that have come before him and stunk up the joint. Now it is his turn. He makes the big bucks it is up to him to deliver. The last few win or go home possessions have been beyond pathetic. He needs ti lift up his skirt and get the first down.

Giant fans are already chirping, but not as annoying as the Jet fans who think they are going to the Super Bowl this season.

Beating the Giants will be about containing Barkley, Waller on offense who appears now to be Daniel Jones go to target and beating the blitz that their DC loves calling.

I completely agree with this. Dallas is the better team and they need to beat the teams they are better then. That middle part of the schedule with LA, SF and Philly is tough. Add in the Bills. Can’t lose to the Giants.

Yeah, from my perspective, an opening day loss would only add fuel to the fire for the media in the following week's matchup with Rodgers coming to town.

The QB and HC would be under tremendous scrutiny in trying to avoid an 0-2 start.
This would also serve as an early indicator as to how the QB and HC will handle pressure filled situations this year.

I'm more concerned about the Jets and Rodgers. We do need a win in week 1. After the way Philly manhandled the Giants in the playoffs I expect to win convincingly.

You keep bringing up the Eagles playoff loss as if that one game should carryover to this present season…..what about your playoff loss to SF? Does that loss carryover too? If it does, then we both have last game losses to erase and overcome, not just my boys.

Dennis Houston a good fit for that team . Jones needs receivers who can catch the ball and stay healthy . Wouldn’t surprise if he suited up .
No way this happens….none whatsoever. Cole Beasley might suit up though, but not Houston. I doubt slot receiver WanDale Robinson is activated because he is still just 9 months removed from ACL surgery, but I expect Sterling Shepard to be activated along with Beasley.

Campbell, Hyatt, Hodgins, Slayton will make the six WRs. I doubt Houston is activated unless we have a couple of injuries from the above named 6.

Agree that we need to win this game, but I'm just not buying the Giants. They have some decent piece, but over achieved this year and that success will be difficult to duplicate. Is there a single position group you would rather have from the Giants than the Cowboys? Maybe RB?
Maybe TE... Waller is a BEAST if healthy.

No argument there, but that if has become a pretty significant piece to the equation for Waller. For week one I'd agree with you that I'd take Waller. If I had to pick one group for the entire season, I'm still probably going with the Cowboys trio.
