We need to fix our short yardage offense

I agree with Barber not able to find a hole sometimes and dances too much. At the same time, Albert Haynesworth was abusing Kosar especially during running plays. Maybe, we should have seen that and run outside or account for him in the running game?

Choice would be a better short yardage back just because he would hit the crease with no hesitation and use his lower center of gravity to get under pads and push forward. Barber hops around and at 6'0" has to bend down at the waist to get a lower pad level and gets stood up too easily.

But when it takes Jerry Jones publicly lobbying for Felix Jones to get the ball more before Garrett will do it, even when he's a friggin 1st round draft pick and averages a ridiculous ypc, you can pretty much chalk it down that Choice doesn't have a prayer. For whatever reason Garrett is absolutely terrified of using anyone but Barber.

3 trips inside the 35 and only 3 points to show for it ... it's exactly what got us beat against the Chargers and Giants. Thank the Jeebus we were facing a pathetic offensive team tonight.

it's garrett and wade for keeping Barber in there. use felix, anderson, choice, or a QB sneak. how about playaction to a TE or WR. how about a screen.

dont run the same play over and over if it continues to fail....

none of those plays were the same play calls...several were from different formations...

again, you guys cant cry and complain about giving up on the run and then cry and complain when it doesnt work

i think its barber more than anything... to much hesitation and not enough burst

I agree.

Hit the hole. No time to look and see whats there.

Parcells would **** his pants if he saw MB3 toe dippin like that.

Not sure what the cure is. The guys just get no push in short yardage plays.

Probably the best fix if they want to run in short yardage is to spread the field and run from the shotgun. That seems to be the play that works best because the defense cant stack 8 or 9 guys so close together. The other answer is just quit running it.

Agreed. I want us to spread the field and do that draw, or a screen pass.

The one drive I was really hoping for the sneak. It was too close to not do the sneak. The Barber delay run is pathetic. The game should have been 31-0. Well we won. That is all that matters. Maybe we will learn something about that play after the game. I have noticed recently that Garrett can change his playbook.

Yep, that's what I think.

Barber and Roy are helping to hold this offense back.

Choice needs to be the short-yardage guy.

There was plenty of blame tonight. RW wasnt the only guy who dropped a pass. Ogletree, Hurd, Barber, Bennett and Austin all dropped easy ones.

The run game failure is totally on the OL IMO.

100% correct.

Its not, its predictable, everyone knows that Ginge is running Barber up the gut on short yardage situations, he doesnt even give him a chance.

are you kidding me? you have to mix in some play-action, etc. in order for the run to work...good grief.

a balanced attack is a good thing...did you notice how many shots romo took out there?....i was wondering if he was going to finish the game!

...there are other plays that Garrett has available. We won't see them until we get to the playoffs and the situation is crucial.

He is also giving the base offence and the line a chance to get the first down, but there is other plays in the book, but he doesn't want to reveal them yet.

It was obvious we were making the playoffs and he might now reveal a new short yardage wrinkle until we get into the tournament.

Wonder if Romo has been given the green light to audible on the line with 3rd and 4th and 1 just like he does the rest of the game. Running behind the guards didn't work against San Diego on the goal line and it didn't work against Wash in the middle of the field......gee it's amazing that they can't get a push when they need it with 300+ pound linemen.

It's virtually non-existent that you see a RB with a clear running lane up the gut in a short yardage situation in the NFL. When the defense stacks 10 defenders in the box in goalline/short yardage, it's hard to blame it on the OL. When there's too many people to block either the RB has to find a way to make the tough yard by himself or the offensive coordinator has to do something to counter the defensive formation.

I dont buy it, he pulled the same garbage in the San Diego game where the playoffs were no done deal.

We tried that from the Razorback and failed with Choice tonight, too.

Ogletree did not drop an easy one. Romo did skip one to him though.

Nobody is expecting a clear running lane, but they at least need to get some push.

Our OL is actually getting pushed back in those plays. Barber should also hit the hole faster, but the OL needs to do a better job.

Guess I'll have to watch the replay, because live it looked like it hit him right in the hands.

+1. It's a compound problem. I also think Felix is dancing around behind the line more than he did last year. Not necessarily on short yardage, but in general.

Not that I"m complaining too much.

Again, when you have 5 or 6 guys trying to block 8 or 9, either the RB has to either just hit the hole as hard as he can and make the half a yard or the offensive cordinator has to make an adjustment, because it's a losing numbers game and someone is going into the backfield untouched.
